8 Years on a battery

Had to replace the battery on my 2005 Nomad. I keep most of my bikes at least 10 years...some longer. 8 years seems about it for the stock battery.

And if I follow my pattern...I should end up with a 2015 Voyager

You have better luck being farther north. I replaced mine on the '08 a couple of months ago. The heat down here sucks the life out of batteries.

I replaced the battery on my 05 battery in 2011. I only replaced it because one of the terminals came off from overtightening.

I have an 05' 1500 that still has the original battery installed and working good (28K miles). I might just keep it for the rest of the year (no extended rides planned).

I also got 8 years from my Yuasa OEM battery...and there was nothing wrong with it. I simply decided not to push my luck.

Needless to say I replaced it with the exact same brand/model.

I might be pushing mine. It's in my 06' and been there since day one.. The thing that keeps me from tackling this is all the electrical under the saddle. I have the load equalizers etc all under there and I'm concerned that the connections will come loose and I'll be redoing things completely. Not something I want to do. But I'd be better off doing all that here at home where I have the tools/connectors to do, rather than getting stuck somewhere on the road needing to replace the battery.

i just replaced my battery last year. It was the original in my 2003. I felt that 10 years was pretty good. My old battery was still working, it just would not charge all the way up and i did not want to get stranded.

My 05 Nomad battery died last week, new one fitted, Yuasa. I use a battery tender and thought that 8 years seemed reasonable for the original.

I have saved hundreds of $$$ on battery's ...by using battery Tenders on everything !
I have "Battery Tender Jr's" on my bike, my big diesel pick up, and my travel trailer and one on my back-up emergency generator.

The big truck and the travel trailer both have -2 each- of the biggest battery's available --from WALMART...and the "JR" keeps all them in good condition

All the batterys on the place are at least 7 or 8 years old (I think the one in the emergency generator is around 10 years old)

I have never had to buy a battery for my 02 Nomad, I I think the guy I bought it from had a new battery in it at the time I bought it ...2005

I got 8 years in my Nomad battery, The best battery life Ive ever had is the one in my Argo, 14 years and still going. I tested the cells a couple months ago and they are all the the low end of whats still considered good. I'd like to see if I still can get another year or two out of it.

Its an Interstate battery, the size used in lawn tractors.500cca Thats exactly what I'll use again when I replace it.

Wow those are some impressive service ranges. Most I ever got out a one was 6yrs and I thought that was good (I live down in Florida).

Electronic friend of mine says if you continue to run an old battery it's a good idea to load test it once every 6 months, just to make sure it isn't causing the stator/regulator to overwork (heat). But then he also says that load testing a battery causes some permanent wear on the battery also, so whatever.

I think six years of service being in Florida is really good. I know that in some hot climates your doing well to get two years on a battery.

I replace batteries every 5 years even if they're still running strong. As cheap as batteries are, it's good insurance.
