Rain gloves?

Rode from Fl to Va yesterday & a lot of time in Fl & Ga was in rain. My leather gloves stayed wet so I stayed cold. Once out of the rain, I put on a dry pair. Question: I have Gerbing G3's but didn't have them with me. Research today reveals their inner liner is waterproof but the outer leather is not. They also sell "waterproofing" products for gloves. Has anybody worn their Gerbing's in prolonged rain or used any of their waterproofing? Opinions/reviews? Those things are mighty expensive to get wet a couple times & have them ruined! Any other ideas about cold weather waterproof rain gloves?

For cold/wet weather I use a mid wt Snowmobile glove.

If my hands start to get cold I have also used Grabber-Hand warmers. I also carry Grabber foot warmers.

Go to a boating/fishing store for light weight water proof fishing gloves . . . Usually not the best for cold weather, but keeps hands dry . . .

Instructor at advanced rider course recommended neoprene gloves. He had bright orange which helped with visibility too.
I have wind/waterproof Alpinestar gloves that I've gotten years of use out of.

I have a pair of these I carry. They are not the insulated ones though, so they don't do much to keep out the cold. I wore them under leather gloves once on a long stretch through Montana in a brutal rainstorm and they kept my hands dry.

Years ago I used neoprene gloves while rafting in cold water. I also tried them while ridding my MC in rain. Your hands are still going to get wet but they do help them stay warm. Since then, I have found better ways to keep hands warm and dry.

I also use a silk glove liner when ridding in cold weather. Makes a difference and worth the $$ (approx $8-10)

:tup::tup: I used sealskinz offshore in the north Atlantic on a sailboat in November. Warm hands and warm feet. I have used them for cold water sailing ever since

I carry them on the bike but being in the southwest I have not been riding in wet weather for a long time. :-)

One of the problems with wearing something other than motorcycle gloves is that you lose the crash protection leather gives you. If I was planning a long trip and/or lived somewhere that got lots of rain, I'd cough up the dough and buy a pair of waterproof motorcycle gloves. Alpinestar and River Road both make some entry level waterproof gloves in the $40 range. The Joe Rocket Nitrogen gloves are nice at about $65. If you're willing to spend somewhere north of $100, the possibilities are almost limitless for good fitting, comfortable, warm, durable and waterproof gloves. Don't skimp on gear. You don't have to buy the most expensive stuff out there but at least use what was made for the sport.

I bought a pair of cold weather gloves at a local motorcycle accessory store that came with their own rain covers. They store in a little zippered pouch in the gauntlet. Convenient!

i put camp dry waterproofing on my gerbing gloves spent about three hours in the rain coming back from key west and dint get a drop of water inside the gloves and the waterproofing keep the outside leather dry as well

I have used neoprene fishing gloves for several years. It takes awhile for your hands to get wet, but they stay warm. Fleece lined rubberized work gloves are another option.

This is what I carry for an "overglove". Good in wet weather but also add a degree of warmth in cold but dry ridding.

I cheated and went to the local yard store/army&navy store bought a pair of industrial rubber glove that fit over regular light weight winter gloves. At around $10 with gauntlet height about mid forearm no problem with wet or cold when riding in rain.

I discovered that the waterproof gloves also keep the water in. First long ride in rain was stop and go so actually put arms down at some red lights and all the water on my jacket ran down into my gloves. Live and learn.

My rain suit has Velcro storm cuffs, so I always have the gloves under the cuff and tighten the Velcro, not over the cuff.

Thanks for all the replies & ideas! I'm def going to try some Camp Dry on my Gerbings & other gloves 1st & will prolly look at some lighter waterproof riding gloves. :tup:

Pitchinguy, well that name certainly looks for familiar... :wave:

I have a pair of Icon waterproof gloves that I got on closeout at Iron Pony for $30. Seem to have worked pretty damn well thus far.

Get you a box of hospital gloves and put few pairs in you bags put under regular gloves will keep some cold out plus rain. Hands may be damp but from not from outside rain.
