Well I am finally done putting new paint on the Voyager, and guess what! I go to open the trunk and a guss of wind takes it out of my hand and it breaks at the hinges  had to order a new trunk and find out Kawasaki will not cover it under warranty because of the luggage rack, >:(Now I have my insurnace company stopping over to see if they cover it. The dealership wasn't happy ether, They said they have put luggage racks on just about all the Voyagers they have sold. Just becareful of the racks because of the warranty issues. I will post photos of the bike as soon as I get the new trunk on.

That sounds like a load of BS, especially if its a Kawi rack mounted on the beerbox.
I'd start making a few calls to Kawi and see if they will fix it.
I guess those flimsy new style bags don't stand up quite as good as the old ones did.

The issue is that Kawi does not make or offer a rack for that trunk, most people use one from a Star, or Harley. The only one made for it is made by cobra, and it is not endorsed by Kawi. and they say not to exceed 15 lbs. in the trunk, so they know it is a VERY POOR design.....

There's not a tether strap to prevent the lid from opening too far? Sounds like the tourpak is way too flimsy for practical use.

Who spends 19K on a touring bike with a tourpak or topcase that is too flimsy for practical use? :wtf:

Seriously though, they'd be better off having a third party build it for them, like Givi or Shad. Plastic can be made to be very strong and seal well. Mine is air tight and holds two full face lids.

There is a tether strap if I remember correctly. The wind must have broke that too ?

Should have been a steel cord.

Should have been a steal cord.

Then it would have broken at the attachment points. It's like Kaw went to Matazu for their trunks. :D

Mutazu trunks are sturdier.

You should see the dent in my wifes car dooor caused by the wind blowing the car door open on the car parked next to hers when the driver was getting out of the car.
Accidents do happen. The same thing could have happened to a Scootworks, Premeux or Harley trunk if the wind is strong enough.

That is a sad comment.

My Buddy's Ultra Classic tour pack flew open in a wicked Oklahoma Cross Wind during our Grand Canyon Run . . . His bag strapped to it and the passenger seat saved it from blowing across the prairie with most of the contents of his trunk . . .

BTW: The title of this thread is New Paint on Voyager - When do we get to see this new paint???!!!!!!!

I think every luggage rack or saddle bag I've ever seen says "15 lb weight limit", that's how they side step any liabilities. - Even a Gold Wing says the bike weight limit of Driver, Passenger, and luggage not to exceed 250 lbs. - ... I'm 240 myself

Then VP... all you can pack is a handkerchief, and a lunch-bag! :lmao:

There is no way you weigh 240 lbs...

If you do, you are the skinniest 240 I have ever met!! :D

Trunk-lid strapping needs stop short of allowing a trunk to open all the way to avoid all the pressure to stop it being provided by the hinges.

I know a guy that has put a spring-unit he created mid-way on his wire cord for his trunk. It allows some of the tension to be absorbed by the spring before it puts full stress on the hinges. It works really great.

Look at the GVW rating and the wet weight. The difference is the rated capacity. I am pretty sure the goldwing is more than 250lbs. My bike is 520lbs capacity, the GW has to be more.

Unfortunately it's true. The skinniest I've ever been was 200, and my now wife told me to put on some weight. Maybe she's a chubby-chaser though :yep:

My dad had a little convertible that had the same weight limit (250 lb for everything). He is 260 himself so he told Mom, "It's my car, so you have to lose weight" :lmao:

I will post pictures of the paint as soon as I pick the bike up.I had to have the dealership install the new bag because the Insurance made the check out to both me and the dealership because the damage was more than $1500.00 I don't understand that part but hey It didn't come out of my pocket

I don't recall what year goldwing I remember reading that on, but I just saw that a 2012 Gold Wing is 418 lb load limit

Not much for what it is. I think the XCT is 560, the Voyager is under 400.

OK, after reading this thread, I just got to ask, if the wind took the lid out of your hand and broke, how would you even consider this to be a warrenty issue? Yes the material used to make the lid is at best "cheesy" and I too, would be upset as hell if it happen to me, but no way would I ever consider going for warranty claim in a circumstance such as yours.
Not trying to start anything, just stating my thoughts.

It's more like an act of god and an insurance issue.
