Well, Sandi and I have made reservations to go to Sturgis this year. We've thought about it from time to time and things came together early enough to get things set up. Just thought I'd let folks know in case anyone wanted to join up and go along. Yes we will be trailering the Nomad, so we can be the supply truck if needed. Early plan is to leave Rowlett the Sat before and start the trip back the following Sat.
Yes we will be trailering the Nomad,
So...you are pretending it is a Harley for this trip? :D

Don't think Sandi or I are really up to that long a ride anymore as much as I'd like to be. If we were retired and could spend a lot more time going and returning, then riding would be an option. I'm sure my new knees will be alright by then but better safe than sorry. Besides, I'd rather trailer going that far with limited time, instead of riding and being so tired and worn out that we don't enjoy the place once we get there.
My wife and i and 2 other couples went there last august. 1 week after the rally from Wisconsin. Was a very long ride. Took 2 days to get there. 2 days back. We stayed 4 days. It is a very nice area. We rode all of the black hills and the Needles hiway. Was awsome. Stayed off the bikes for a day before we headed back. Wife's will not ride that far anymore. At least not in that short of time.

I don't blame you... Rode there from AR with a group. Had a great time but would gladly swap OK, KS and NE for a couple extra days in the Black Hills on the next trip. Not much to see. But then again, long rides don't bother me... For the trip to Estes, I'm planing a round about trip through TX to CO, the back through WY, Black Hills and SD. Planning to circle KS and NE...

Will probably be there again this year. For some reason keep going every year? Usually end up in Spearfish Campground on the Friday before Sturgis starts - stay until Wednesday then go back home. There is a trailer involved - but it's on the back of the bike. It's only 1050 to 1325 km's ride so 1 1/2 day ride dependant on weather.

Don't miss Spearfish Canyon, Vanocker Canyon,Badlands, Needles Highway. If you get a chance go over to Devils Tower in WY. Lots of great riding. Wild Bill's grave in Deadwood, Crazy Horse, Mt. Rushmore. Have Fun!

I went in 2010, a few weeks before the rally. It was great. Lots of great riding in that are. Custer State Park is the crown jewel of the Black Hills.

While I'm not a fan of the rally, I really like the area for interesting rides. I've hit all the ones you've mentioned except for Vanocker. What is it, and where? Maybe I'll hit it next time I'm near Rapid City.
Also, next time you're on the wildlife loop in Custer SP, say hi to the white burro. He's my good buddy.

Go south out of Sturgis and go under I90. Takes you down through Nemo and on to Rapid City. Another good ride is US16 through Custer City to US 85 north to 585 up to Sundance WY and on up 14 to Devils Tower.
