So I ordered a new 13 Vaquero. I did this thinking I would sell my 07 Nomad. The 13 Vaquero is not here yet. It is likely floating on the Pacific ocean right now. Every time I go to the garage and look at my Nomad I feel guilty, like I have cheated or betrayed her. I am now seriously thinking of keeping her along with the Vaquero. Am I crazy or what???

Nope, everyone should have at LEAST two bikes.
You need one to ride while the other is in the shop. :yep:

Yup, what TC said. My seat is gone to AZ for rebuild, and my Silver Wing hasn't had any love in awhile. That was a blast! Nothing like getting on something 300 pounds lighter, scary-nimble and new shoes to boot! No danger of replacing my baby, but we all need a "backup!"

Funny, that never works in divorce court ...

Normal I'd say. Don't dump something you care about. You will regret it later.. Have your cake and ........ :)

Felt the same when I traded my 9'er Custom in on the Nomad. It was an odd ache down in the pit of my stomach... I just couldn't afford to keep both. I miss that little beastie still, every once in a while.

I've got to agree with the rest, having two bikes is awesome.

I thought I had made a big mistake when I sold my 05 Nomad for a Voyager.
After the Nomad memories faded the Voyager is better by far. Think of a Nomad as a cruiser and a Voyager/Vaquero as a sport tourer !

Last July I traded my beloved '08 Nomad for a 2012 Voyager. At first it was such a different animal that I really missed my Nomad, especially since it just felt sooooo different. Now that I have added lots of extras, (especially RacnRays throttle mod) and personalized it to better fit me ergonomically...all while spending lots of time getting used to it....there is no question the Voyager is much better suited for highway cruising.

There are a few little things here and there I would change, (like having longer legs) but you have that with every bike. It has MUCH more power....electronic cruise control....and you will fall in love with that sixth gear every time you hit 70 mph and kick one more down-shift into an easy-loping high-speed cruise mode. I have yet to make any long multi-state runs with this new steed, but I can tell you this....this bike is happiest above 50 mph...and handles a lot better than the 1600's.

The more time I get on this thing and the more ergonomical I make it to fit me....the less and less I think about my old Nomad. She was a trooper who took me through 12 western States and two Canadian Provinces. It served me very well for 54,000 trouble free miles....but I can't wait to hit the open road with this new Voyager...all pimped out and ready to rumble...!

TC is right on the money. I love having 2 bikes and will always have 2 bikes and one of them will always be a Nomad

In 2008 I had the R1 and a Buell XB9SL. I sold the Buell to a Marine of mine who really wanted it. I have regreted that every since. This time when I went to get the Voyager, the dealer was begging me to trade the R1 since it was an Anniversary Edition and everything and was willing to give me top money for it...I almost did, but then, I remembered that feeling after selling my Buell. I immediately said no way and told the dealer to deliver my new bike at home:) Bikes to me become a part of me, and parting with them is hard. Weird, but normal I think.

I'd keep the R1 as well.
I too wish I'd kept a couple of my bikes rather than trade or sell them. Especially my very first scooter when I was fourteen. It was a 1960 125 Lambretta, I miss that bike more than any of the others.

Wow, ring, a '64 Lambretta!!!!!!! And at 14! I, too, had a bike at 14 ... a brand new late '63 or new '64 Ducati 98cc. Ya' see, back home at that age, you couldn't ride a bike over 5HP. This one was rated @ 4.9HP. While I had a great deal of fun on that little scoot, for the life of me a can't remember what became of it. It seems to have disappeared in the sunset of long ago memories!

if you have the storage space and can afford two bikes then I say definitly keep it. I still miss my custom 1500 classic that I had but I didn't have room for both when I bought my nomad (previous bike to my vaquero) so the classic had to go.

Some of those bikes you guys mention are priceless. When I retire, again, I plan on restoring many old bikes. I don't plan to sell them:) just restore and keep:)

Today I put 250 on the voyager. Jude put 250 on her vulcan 900. I put another 50 on the wide glide and when we put the bikes up I saw how i could fit one more ithe garage and still get her car in. The seed has been planted... nice thread!

I regret getting rid of the Nomad. Should not have done it in hindsight.

In fact, I should have never gotten rid of any of my bikes -- ever.

If you can afford it... keep the Nomad. Just realize that you will have two bikes to maintain though.

There are a lot of members here that have kept their Nomads... you should too.

Mean Streak and Nomad. Have thought to sell one or both, but like others have said, they become part of you. Each has good points and totally diff rides. The meanie keeps me sane and the nad slows me down.... Good mix for me.

But first you have to wait till she is asleep, then sneak in to the room and as quiet as you can, open her purse and reach in and GET YOUR BALLS BACK :D

You'll have to tell me how it worked for you first. :ohno:

In retrospect, I could have kept the Nomad...Oh well. Funny thing is she liked it better than the RT. My oldest daughter on the other hand didn't. Most of the time I ride alone anyway.

I kept my old ninja 250 cuz my boys wanna ride and I want them to learn right. I have a 98 Vulcan 1500a that I couldn't part w when I got my Nomad. That's where the 9888 in my username comes from. I keep it or like TC my mechanic keeps her in mint condition. I couldn't get rid of her and most of the time she's my favorite ride. That bike is affectionately referred to as BUBF, big ugly but fast and I don't know what the guy that named her that way was thinking cuz she's easy on the eyes but she is pretty fast. It's the perfect around town and day ride cruiser and as a pleasant surprise my girlfriend prefers to ride w me on it cuz she gets to stay close. I love my Nomad too, was comfortable and smiling the whole way to Antlers and back. And my boys like to ride on the Nomad w me often. I'm blessed to have retired relatively young and get to ride year round. When the time comes and I buy either a new Nomad,Vaquero or Voyager, it will be sharing garage space w the both of them. Scotts right this is a good thread

What he said! I did the exact same thing and, although I loved my Nomad, I love the Vaquero even more. Plus, even if I had kept the Nomad I don't have enough riding hours to keep two bikes 'busy.' I bet most folks don't.

You're gonna like your Vaq.

I traded an ST1300 and a 1500 classic for my 2012 Voyager. Love the Voyager, but if money or garage space wasn`t an issue I would still have all 3 bikes.

Not really. I wouldn't buy a ST1300, but I know of people who have and they love them. The only complaint I have heard is heat, but the Voyager puts out plenty too. My guess is may be he wanted more room.

Big Red - Been past there. Never went in. Not much into bars and such. Too many dumb a$$e$ for my taste. I like a campfire and a few beers tho!!! We took a short trip up to Hannibal along the GRR. Loved it. We like going down to TN. Visit the Dragon each year. My wife rode it on her bike for the first time this year. We could hook up sometime. Hey just noticed you are from Beecher City. That is WAYYYY past Effingham! I grew up near there. Bradley and Bourbonnais. Been in S. Illinois since 86.

Oh, I thought you meant the Beecher up north. Surely let me know about any group rides. I have a hard time finding anyone who will ride in the cold weather. I don't mind riding even when it gets into the 20's.
