Hello, I ride the 2008 1600 Nomad, The Vaquero has been my dream bike but;....................... I have been trying to follow the "HEAT" threads on the new Vaquero's since they first came out.
I have also read that the Voyager has the same "HEAT" problem.
My question is,........Do all the new 1700 engines have this HEAT" trouble?
Thanks

as I understand they have a fix for the heat that the dealer puts on. the 2012-13 year they have it installed from factory.

That extra heat would be good this time of year:yep:

Fact is, on the Vaquero it's not that bad. I only notice it on the hottest summer days, and then only when forced to ride slow (in traffic).

The heat "issue" is hardly an issue if you live in Ontario. I have only noticed heat from the engine twice, both times in 32c weather while stopped at a light for a couple of minutes.

living in canada I don't think you even need to worry about it. The bike does put off some heat but I don't think its "That" bad. I live in florida and yes during the summer it does get a little hot on the bike when your stopped at lights and such. But, we're having some cooler weather lately and the heat is not noticable. I love my vaquero

2011 Vaquero. I did wrap my pipes, which helped tremendously. Beforehand, during late summer sitting at a long traffic light, the family jewels were being slowly roasted! The pipe wrap is all I needed!

Okay the Vaquero runs hot, given!
The Voyager runs hot, given!
What about the other 1700's,............... Classic and Nomad???

These posts slay me. You're sitting on a motorcycle with a 103 cu/in engine between your legs and people are surprised that it's hot.

I thought my 09 nomad 1700 was hot but I don't even really notice it anymore. I wrapped the pipes and put engine ice in and can't even think about the last time I thought about the heat, even in stop and go traffic. Even when I didn't have the wraps it really wasn't that big of a deal. To be expected with such a big motor.

In comparison to the 1600, its hot.

The 1600 is water cooled. The 1700 is water assisted cooling. Jugs do not get the water flow as on the 1600.

I drove the 1600 to a demo day. Rode the current 2012 Voyager and Vacquero. Then got back on my 1600. The 1700's are a lot hotter.

IMHO, the fixes help, but are not a complete fix.

I'm glad I bought a 2012 Nomad. If this is cooler than previous years, holy crap! In my opinion it's still hot. Now, I'm not really complaining. I expect a big motor to put out a lot of heat. But it's toasty!

I got my low-mile 2009 Nomad for $7k because the PO said it was too hot! I'll take it! On a hot day in traffic, OK it's hot... but what's not going to be hot? It does stay hot a lot longer after shutdown than I would have expected, but no big deal either way.

I never feel my 1500 is too hot.
but I live in the city and takes up to an hour to get out of the city.....riding to work is through the city...It is all stop and stop...and stop traffic

Might be an issue?
What is engine ice?

The discussion was of the 1700 engine, the 1500 and 1600's do not have this issue.

what cj said.heat has only been noticeable in temps above 90 degrees.in wyoming we don't sit in trafic so that hasn't been an issue for me.

10K on my Voyager and there are times that I am looking for it to be too hot - Sitting in DC traffic and Virginia summer heat - It has never been unbearably hot . . . Sometimes it competes with the hot sun on my thighs . . . Thinking of wrapping the pipes - but never got around to it because I don't need to . . . Always wear jeans and boots - probably would complain a bit if I wore shorts . . . The KAMS heat solution is FUGLY! They should have at least chromed the damn thing . . . Big engine - makes big energy high school chemistry taught me that energy = Heat . . .

Some people say the 1700 run hot because they are a big V-twin engine,....................what about the 2000?
I don't think I've read any where that they run hot!!!!

On a hot day if you are stoped there will be heat from any bike motor.

seems you have allready passed judgement on the 1700 so i would suggest
sticking with your 1600 or some other water cooled motor.kawi's 1700 is no
hotter running then harley's 103 motor and lot's of folks get along fine with thier harleys.having owned two 1600's and now a 1700 i can tell you
that in my opinion the 1700 is the better motor of the two.

No, I'm not passing judgement!
Yes, i do like my 1600 Nomad.
I don't ride a Harley because they are expensive and "AIR" cooled.
Yes, there are other bikes out there that are Liquid cooled.
I am just very interested in the fact that many have complained about the HEAT coming from the the Vaquero and the Voyager, so I was asking,...............do all the 1700's have a heat issue.
This is not a personal thread.
Thanks

The 1700's do not have a heat "issue". Yes they are hotter than a 1600 when stopped in traffic. If you drive a lot in traffic and heat from the bike bothers you when you are in 30c heat then you might want to stick with your 1600. If you can put up with heat from the bike on a hot day while stopped at a traffic light for a couple of minutes then buy a 1700. The heat "issue" is not an issue for me.

I had a 2006 Nomad. My 2012 Voyager is hotter than the Nomad, no doubt about it. Not to the degree that it bothers me though. Only notice it in heavy traffic when stopped.

With that being said, I wouldn't go back to my old bike even if you paid me to. I am really enjoying my Voyager. I've put more miles on the Voyager in the last month that I put on my Nomad in six months.

I too had an '06 Nomad and now have an '11 Voyager and, as others have pointed out, you've got a large motor sitting there and, it does put out a lot of heat. But, if you were sitting in heavy traffic in 32 deg c temperatures, you would be hard pressed to notice much difference in heat output no matter if you were sitting on the Nomad or on the Voyager (or Vaquero).

That being said, the 1700 is, IMHO, a far superior motor than the 1600, smoother, more refined, more HP, more torque and, the bike itself, is a far better handling machine than the previous version.
I really liked my Nomad but, I luv my Voyager. If you really like the Vaquero, then buy it, you won't regret your decision. If the majority of your riding is in moderate to heavy traffic situations where heat may be of concern, then I suggest to you that you are looking at the wrong bike for that purpose and, you should probably look at something different or, stick with your Nomad.

It's not a question of what is or what is not going to be hot, but where that heat goes. Some bikes are better than others at routing the heat away from the rider. Unfortunately, it's more difficult with a V-Twin.

Hubby rides the 1600 Nomad and LOVES my bike! He plans on getting the Voyager next year.

When people talk about wrapping the pipes I hope it is not wrapping that ugly pipe wrap around the chrome. You are talking about under the chrome heat shields right?
