Just installed cam chain extenders on my 06 Nomad, the right side rear spark plug tube was scored. Want to thank Rhys (Blueraven) who stopped by to make sure I did not screw up. Followed instructions posted by Tomm and Mac and all went well, I have a dual Cadmann mod with the crossover tube still in place and it really was not as difficult as I had expected thanks to the good detail available on this site. Thanks again Rhys for helping me out on this task. glad it is done :D

Good you got to it before you needed to replace the spark plug tunnel.

Good for you Ray! I have the extenders from Joe and will have to do mine maybe this winter. Glad you had Rhys around to help!

I have read a lot of threads about cam chain extenders. I bought my 08 Nomad about 5 months ago with 7800 miles on her. She now has a little over 12000 on her. There has always been a little rattle but I thought it was probably the clutch. At what mileage should you consider extenders.

Most occur 25,000 or more, you can check them to be sure of the travel.

I had 25,000 miles on my '07 when I installed mine. I had a couple of clicks left on one and 1 left on the other. I could have gone a few thousand more but was happy to get it done when I did. I wouldn't even look before 20,000 miles unless the engine is really noisy.

I have 39K on my 2006 and have no noise going on. Will probably do it before next years national.

Thanks Ray and everyone.
I should have another 2 or 3 years......bur wonder if I should buy the extenders now incase they are no longer available when I need them?
What do you all think?

It is probably a wise idea to check them around 28,000 miles..... If you are sure you hear no extra sounds you might delay the checking to around 33,000 miles....

If I recall that is when I did a set for Flavor.. My 05 has just reached 25,xxx and isn't making sounds yet, or I don't hear them if it is... But pretty soon I should listen with a rod or a techs stethoscope ..... Flavor's bike had a few teeth to go as well.

If you see teeth they are 1/10th inch each in space..... With new tensioners still the rod drops back in to about 1/2 way...
