View Full Version : What about lights inside the louvers?

I fell in love with the Vaquero pretty much at first sight. One of the things I love about the looks is the louvers, which of course don’t do anything except look good! I know some of you have added in the light kit, but for me, that is borderline sacrilege. So what I want for my front-end is my good looking louvers, plus running lights, flashers, and a clean, mean look-no clutter. That means the flasher-afterthought-stick-it-somewhere light bar has to go.
Seeing how I can’t find what I want, guess I’ll have to make it. I’m thinking about separating the two parts of the louver and cutting a slot into the top two openings that would allow this light (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251100266216?item=251100266216&viewitem=&sspagename=ADME:X:AAQ:MOTORS:1123&vxp=mtr) on top and this light (http://www.ebay.com/itm/251121607429?ru=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fsch%2F i.html%3F_sacat%3D0%26_from%3DR40%26_nkw%3D2511216 07429%26_rdc%3D1) in the second larger slot. JB Weld them in for a good seal and wire them into a switch. I want a switch to turn them off, as there are times I simply want to have that original “hot-rod” look and not worried as much about extra lights bing on. Bike runs and such comes to mind. Turned off, they should nearly disappear from sight buried in the back of the louver. Unfortunately, the company selling these do not have the same thing in yellow LED, else my hunt would be over and I would be posting pictures!
So what do you think? Anybody seen these lights? They don’t have to be super-bright, but that is always a plus. Suggestions on how to light up the bottom two slots for embedded blinkers?

What do I think? I wouldn't use JB Weld for something like this. I don't know if that's a step above duct tape or not.

Cool idea. I think it could look great.
JB Weld will be a bit of a commitment though, especially if you need to remove them at some point. You would have to grind then out. I would go with an industrial velcro product. The LEDs are so lightweight and that it will secure them fine, but could still be easily removed. I've used industrial velcro for several applications securing electronic components weighing up to two lbs without any issues at all.

I bought some Stringerz from Custom Dynamics.
They come in yellow and they put out a lot of light
Scroll to the middle of the page for the single units.

I think they would look great. Just don't use JB Weld though. That's a lifetime commitment.

Hey, with duct tape and baling wire, you can fix ANYTHING! I wasn't talking about goobering up the entire thing with JB Weld, just a thin bead where a properly trimmed slot would touch the LED mount. If for some reason I wanted it out, it wouldn't take much cutting to remove it. I'll do a little more looking, thanks for the links! I can never have too many links!

One of the guys around here did something similar to mine, but as turn signals only. I like them as driving lights. They are Really Bright, but I don't think they actually add much light to see with, however, they definitely add lots of light to BE SEEN with.

now it's pretty awesome looking with the black LED headlight too
