The needle does seem to float around between 3/4 to full when driving but always returns to full.

Does is end up near empty when you're empty?

No. When the tank is empty, the gauge still read full.

Do you still have warranty coverage? If not, time to look into a new gauge.

Could it be the sending unit? I know in trucks a lot of times when the sending unit goes out the guage reads full

The Fuel gauge is only a two wire system as the level(float) moves up/down the resistance is decreased or increased. The sensor in the tank(bolted on the underside) Could be at fault or your gauge.
After tapping everything in case something is jammed, I would try to see if power makes it to the sensor and then measure the resistance of the sensor (unplug first)to see if it gives a variable resistance from MT to Full.
If the gauge uses less resistance to read full there could be some dirty water/material at the plug or any where from the sensor to gauge. remove and spray with electroclean(cleaning) or WD40 (remove moisture)
I think the Kawi Manual has the reading of Ohms (resistance), but i am not 100% sure.
Best of luck Hans
