Hi all! I've spent the last 20 years riding a custom-painted red-white-and blue yamaha. I'm currently deployed in Afghanistan and purchased (from 7000 miles away) an '01 Vulcan Nomad. I can't wait to get home to see my ride! I've already purchased new mirrors, chrome side covers, and a new custom crash bar. I'm thinking of removing the Vulcan plates from the side of the fuel tank. I'm open for graphic options. Does anyone have any good ideas or advice on decals? I'm trying to avoid a total paint job due to the time and cost involved. Any ideas are greatly appreciated! Thank you and ride safe.

Welcome to the forum, you've come to the right site.
When owning a Vulcan 1500,1600 and 1700 you won't find a better bunch to hang with. Sounds
like you have ideas already for making it yours, that's the best part.
We all like to know where other members are from, and where they are presently, or in your
case where you might be based on your return home. Other riders in your area might like to get
together for a ride or a coffee.
And of course there are the rally's, regional and every other year a national. hope you can make
one of them, they are fun and you meet the people you have bantered with.
Hope you get to log many happy and safe miles.:yep:
Much luck to you, Gerry.

Welcome to the forum. You may want to take a look at wrapping. Take less time than paint and quickly changed, if you change your mine. I like your bike as it is.

Seriously though... I think the bike looks great as it is. I wouldn't change it; and why take the badges off? Seems like if you are not going to paint the tank like TC did when he removed his badges that it wouldn't be worth... unless you are wanting to hide something. If you are hiding something; you don't need to. The bike is fine.
Hope you get home safe and soon:cheers:

I just like to personalize my ride. My background? I've been riding for over 30 years now. I live in upstate New York, and I'm currently deployed in Afghanistan. I'm in my 28th year of service, and look forward to 12 more before I call it quits.
The Nomad I bought will be the biggest bike I've owned. I am SO looking forward to getting home and going for LONG rides!

First, thanks for doing what you're doing. Second, I'd ask the seller what he did with the windscreen. ALL Nomads came with one stock. That's part of what makes them Nomads. If he claims it never had one, remind him of some of the "toys" you play with (I'm assuming you're in the Navy). Third, are those back up lights on the rear of the bags (just above the tail lights)????

First, the pleasure is all mine to serve. Next, I forgive you for your navy assumption. I've been Army green my entire career. "Chief" is for chief warrant officer. As for the windscreen, I believe there is one with it. It just wasn't installed when the picture was taken. The bike belonged to a fellow Soldier. He threw it up on his Facebook with a price...I jumped right on it...so you've seen as much of the bike as I have...that one photograph. And for the backup lights? I honestly can't answer that until I get home! Keep the faith!!!

Have to agree with others. Your bike looks great as is, tho there are lots of different things you can do to personalize it. This is a great forum for you to learn all the ways! I thank you for your service as well. Have a great week.

I'm contemplating LED ground effect lighting too. I've never played with them before, so any advice is greatly appreciated.

Looks like they took the rear signal light bar off and install some in the back of the bags maybe the top is turn signals and bottom is brake lights or the other way around maybe LEDs some of them look white until they light up

You can see the original lights in the pic, if you look closely.

First of all thanks for your service Sir! Second, welcome! Save the $$$$ for a batwing fairing. The best mod I've ever done.

I believe I see a Vance and Hines pipe poking out from under the left bag. That's one of the coolest mods there are.

Yes, those are Vance and Hines pipes. Good catch! As for the mysterious lights on the bags.....I think they may just be reflectors. I had my son take a picture of the bike after it was delivered to my house. No white lights/reflectors. And there is a normal turn-signal bar on it.
I've got so many upgrades running through my head...and I'm too damn anxious to wait until I get home. Risers? I haven't heard anyone say a bad thing about them. License plate frame....I may want to relocate it or make it a little more low-key. Rack behind the sissy-bar....almost a must. Paint job....I WISH! LED lights...they seem too cool to ignore. And now I have to go check out a Batwing fairing, as suggested by others.
The worst part of the whole deal is when I finally get home to see the bike, it will be -10 degrees with 4 feet of snow on the ground. The best part is I'll have time to do all the upgrades before the good weather comes!

Aviation is my hobby...I fly a Cessna 172 and a Cessna 150. I WISH I flew for the military, but I caught the aviation bug far too late in my life to have that as an option.

One suggestion for a batwing fairing, 'cause there are many out there, is the Reckless Fairing. You get a discount for being a VBA member. Some people love them, some want other options. I'm planning on one soon (hopefully this winter).
P.S. Thank you for your service. I'm jealous of your hobby of flying. I want to get my license one of these days.

So what do you do as a WO? EOD? Intel? Not many MOSs allow for a WO other than fixed wing and choppers.

The Army splits up its Warrant Officers into two groups...Aviation and Technical. The aviation warrants are all the young kids who have what it takes to zip around the sky. The technical warrants are experts in their respective fields. They are found in almost every Corps in the army. I am in the Quartermaster Corps.

I've rarely seen any WOs in anything that wasn't very specialize (other than aviation). EOD, Intel, etc were the first things that came to mind. I don't know that I've ever seen a QM WO. OTOH, I didn't bother with supply much. As long as someone ordered my commo parts, I was good. (I rarely had to do it myself. One of the benefits to being in a commo MOS in an Infantry unit. There was always someone higher up who felt the need to "be in charge". I was a nobody no matter what rank I was. :) )
