Folks,

It's probably time to start looking at locations for the 2014 SW Regional Rally. We've had rallies in Nevada, northern California, Southern Utah and SW Colorado.

The one states that we haven't held one in yet is New Mexico and Arizona. Other areas that are away from the locations that we have had would be entertained.

Any ideas? Thoughts of a combined rally with another region?

I'm not from SW Region nor do I attend rallys but I think Taos, NM would make a nice rally headquarters. I can think of at least 4 day-long circle routes around Taos, NM.

I'd be up for a Taos rally.

The time of year that these rallies are held make it difficult for me to recommend many places in AZ. Two areas that come to mind are Flagstaff and the White Mountains.

Not Flagstaff specifically, but Williams which is only 20 miles away. Flagstaff is too busy and traffic can be a nightmare.

The White Mountains are in the east part of the state, and we could ride Hwy 191, the Coronado Trail. It's the best ride in AZ. The only towns in that area large enough to support a rally would be Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, or Springerville-Eagar.

Considering where we just held our recent rally....Joel has about as much chance of getting it right as Wilson and his bean fields.....:D:lmao:.

I guess Las Vegas in July is out of the question. :D. The area around Lake Tahoe is a great area. I haven't been to Taos in years but I remember it as a a nice place. Williams, AZ is a good choice also.

If you are going to do it in California, make it on the coast, at least in part. That said, NM would be interesting. Just stay away from Gallup. :wtf:

Gallup is the armpit of NM. Or was that Shiprock? I forget... I guess NM has two armpits.

Gallup from my estimation of having been there once. That was enough.

Logan Utah would also be an awesome place for a rally too.

The problem with Logan Utah is you would probably get even more riff raff from the NW Region (in addition to Charlie + Kris). I know I would show up.:lmao:

Logan is beautiful.

Santa Fe is trendy and ABQ is a bigger city (Breaking Bad is filmed there)...There's plenty to see in that state, but it's not centrally located, so some will not like that.

There's always Ruidoso, in the SE area of NM, but it would be a long haul for nearly everyone to get there. It's a day's ride from PHX.

Might as well see Roswell too. Hey since it's Vulcans, it's kind of related to Star Trek... WTH

Joel - you have done well picking the last two - small towns with mom and pop motels. That's a good model to follow.

i've based a few rides out of grand junction over the years and agree that it's
not a bad choice.

I vote for Lake Tahoo or Topaz Lake area. Great riding in both areas. Plus there's Schat's bakery for people passing through Bishop.
