Well ya gotta start someplace right? Picked up a roll of chrome door trim at the auto parts store and got busy on the trunk lid edge, the saddlebag door edges and the front fender.....

Shows that a simple mod can produce such great results. That's a great color combination to start with, and adding that little bit of chrome detailing just accents it well.
GOOD JOB!!

If you can't say something nice... then you don't say anything at all. Ever heard of that before?:hmm:
Apparently not.:ohno:

No worries...its not for everyone...that's what "making it your own" is all about! I actually added some more today around the fairing and lowers.....just adds a little bling to an otherwide dull edge.....

I can tell you two things right off the bat just from riding it to and from work this week....and they are related. Risers and a backrest....I need them both...like yesterday. My back is kind of aching from having to lean forward and hang onto the bars.
I ordered a set of risers from Chuckster and they are on the way (thanks Joe)! I also ordered a Corbin seat...the only one that seems to lower the distance to the ground a tad for my short-leggedness. With the drivers backrest....that's a cool $800.00..... But....when you gotta have it, you gotta have it. Bolts right on out of the box...:yep:. I did call over to Rich's Custom Seats today and they are taking appointments for the end of August...and still around $800.00....so either way I'm gonna have to bend over. Once those things are on though...life will be good again.

I wonder how the black trim on a red Vaquero would look.

Give it a shot and post some pics. It comes right off if you don't like it and any residual glue will clean right up with a little Goof-Off. You will need some good tin snips or garden snips to cut the stuff cleanly.

I like the trim and appreciate your sharing the "how to" with us. I really go more for the performance and comfort mods, but I may do the trim. That really makes a difference.
It is also interesting to hear the comparisons with your 1600. Thanks kris.

Lookin' good Kris! I am surprised you want a lower seat. I thought you would order leg extensions from Cruiser Customizing. They are in the Riding Gear, Short n' Stocky Norwegian section.:D:cheers:
Full pictures please!

Kris Looks Great!
Do you know what size trim you used? 3/16" , 1/4" ?
Also how much did you actually use? 20-22 feet?
Did you have to snip the trim on the upper fairing between the speaker and the glove box? It looks like that would have been too tight of a bend.
Netnorske
08-08-2012, 12:11 PM
Yeah...I left about a quarter inch exposed at that tight bend. I used the 1/4 inch trim and you need a good pair of snips to cut it...either tin or garden ones. I needed two rolls, but did not use it all...

I like the accent trim
If it is done right it can look very nice
It is a bitch to get the wax off of the edges when you are cleaning though

Hopefully somebody bought stock in the company that makes that trim right before Kris got started. Bigtrain, you are not alone. Hammer, Larry the Cable Guy would say "I don't care who you are, that is funny".

Hey Kris,
Congratulations on the new ride, she is a beautiful bike...I'm still working on getting a new bike and it won't be very much longer. Good job on the chrome trim. Take care, ride safe and God bless.
