Just purchased a set of Iso Grips from Kuryakyn, and curious how to install them. This is my first time pulling off the throttle side and am a little intimidated I'm going to pull of the switch housing and a tiny little spring is going to come flying out. Any words of advice or tips. Thanks in advance.

Don't panic. I was in the same boat as you when I replaced mine. The switch housing pretty much stays together and the best part...no little springs.

Take everything off slow enough that you remember how everything looked with the stock grips, that way when you replace them, it's just doing everything in reverse.

Not too much worry on that side just watch your wiring. There is a hole in the bar you have too line the switch hosing back up too.
On the left side if you use the kury glue once you start sliding the grip on DON'T STOP it's really quick setting.

hey thanks for the link. I do have a throttle lock, and that gadget fix it site helped out a ton. Now I just wait until the grips arrive and the work will begin. I'll keep you all updated on the outcome. Thanks again and ride safe.

Word of caution on putting on the left grip with glue. if the instructions say put glue on the bar and slide grip on- DON'T! the instructions are old I found out from doing it this way. had to call Kury to get a new grip. They said to dribble glue into the grip first then slide it on fast, dont stop because it will stop fast. They replaced it free too. Hope this helps.

Sure they are, especially if you have big paws ;)

You know what they say. Big feet......big shoes http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

BIG WORD of CAUTION:

Cover your tank with a blanket or something soft and padded along with your fender. Just so nothing dumb happens like a wrench drop or screwdriver.

Another thing. Dry fit the left side and see where you want it to be to match the throttle side so they are symetrical before you apply the glue mmmmmmk?

Good advice, there.

Why would you want them symmetrical when parked? The purpose of those big black rubber pads is to add cushion and air space to your palm and if you line up the left with the right the left will be in the wrong place when your riding.[/quote:ivwp573e]

You're kidding, right ? I hope so :-/

This wasn't a debate. I simply asked you a question.[/quote:2zlb25tw]

When the bike is sitting with no one on it the grips should look symetrical. When I sit on the bike and grab my grips, my fingertips wrap over the rubber and fit on the chrome showing on the front. When I twist the throttle my grips feel the same in each hand as well because my grip never changed. The only thing that changed was the angle of my wrist. The thing that cures the aching wrist on the Kury is the Throttle Boss. That's why these things are made.

Not at all, when you twist the throttle the grips will be lined up differently with the throttle being in the proper position if you don't stagger them to begin with.[/quote:q4iidkj6]

When you grab the throttle do you turn your hand round the grip or does the grip stay relative to your hand??????

Or which came first the chicken or the egg????????

1) When the bike is sitting with no one on it the grips should look symetrical.

2) When I sit on the bike and grab my grips, my fingertips wrap over the rubber and fit on the chrome showing on the front.

3) When I twist the throttle my grips feel the same in each hand as well because my grip never changed.

4) The only thing that changed was the angle of my wrist.

5) The thing that cures the aching wrist on the Kury is the Throttle Boss. That's why these things are made.

1) I could care less what they look like when I'm not riding, I'm into function over form.

2) I prefer my finger tips resting on the front side rubber pads and the back side rubber pads in my palm.

3) That's strange, because my grip changes constantly on the throttle depending on how much throttle I'm giving it.

4) See previous answer.

5) Once again 3rd answer sums up why my wrist does not ache and I have no need for a throttle boss.

Now, all this to say, I don't care where you place your grips. You were giving advice on how to install ones grips like that was the only way it should be done, when in fact it is just your personal preference.[/quote:1diy2wfn]

According to # 3 and 4, did you glue your left grip as if the right one was going 30 mph or 70 mph and in which gear did you come to the conclusion ?

I hear this topic. I put my ISO grips on so they feel good not look good. A buddy of mine did that and lined them up so they looked equal but regretted it later becasue he said they dont feel right in the normal riding position. I mean to each his/her own but I go for comfort now instead of looks but looks do matter though on some things.. Thats my two cents on this...

Put your grips on the way YOU prefer, no set way.

When I ride I don't just grab the throttle and leave my and locked to it. My right hand grip is constantly changing depending on how much throttle I'm giving it as to maintain a comfortable riding position. Put your left grip on where it feels comfortable because your left grip never changes. When I used to do long day rides my right arm used to ache from the wrist to the elbow. A friend of mine told me not to use a death grip just hold the throttle with my palm and relax my fingers. Since then I've had no problem and no need for a cruise control.

You're right. It just seemed strange to me at the time.

Who woulda thunk this topic would bring about such discussion? I agree with the glue application suggestion. I put the glue on the handlebar and slid the grip on. The glue didn't spread evenly and my grip would twist back and forth near the bottom and middle. A buddy used air to get the grip back off and glued it down the right way for me.

I guess I gotta think more outa the box, I'm a flexible person with my own thoughts, open for discussion.

No hard feelings Groundhog, but when I said 'I'm bowing out of this discussion', I realized at that point something I learned a long time ago, which is ,you can't argue personal opinion. With that being said, I'm happy the way this turned out since I learned a different perspective through your thoughts and the thoughts of others.
