Hey guys, I'm looking for opinions on good mc road, motels etc. Next week I'm taking my Nomad from Sebastian Fl to pick up my girlfriend in Virginia Beach. We're gonna start and finish in Virginia Beach and looking to head west to Blue Ridge Parkway. Was thinking route 40 in Va but was wondering about a good road heading west in NC as there isn't a helmet law there. Any and all opinions on a good 4 day trip starting and finishing in Virginia Beach w about 250 to 300 miles a day and off the highway roads would be appreciated. Thanks

I may be misunderstanding the post, but we got a helmet law here in NC. I would say any Northern route you take in NC is great as far as scenery. The BRP is very nice if you are not in a hurry.

I wouldn't plan my vacation or a trip based on riding without a helmet. I prefer to keep my head protected. I only have two and it is the only one that can do any thinking for me.

There are several good roads around Va to ride. The BRP, Skyline Drive and if you really want to go scenic, just get off the beaten path and hit any of the 2 lane blacktops and just ride. Enjoy and ride safe. By the way, I'll be leaving for Va, WV, and Pa the week of July 9th and returning home around the 21st. I'm taking the mountains the whole route.

I'll bet there was a time when the little head did most of the thinking. :D

You must wear a helmet here in NC, but not in SC.

I just returned from Va yesterday. We went there to ride the BACK OF THE DRAGON route 16 and 42 in the Tazwell area of Va.
16 is 32 miles long and is more challenging than Tail of the Dragon. You better be on top of your game to ride these roads.
The problem right now is because of the storms a lot of areas have no power and we were told it could be 4-7 days before all power is restored.
That means many businesses are closed and gas is hard to find. We waited 2.5 hours in line at a Kroger store to get gas.

Thanks guys. I hear a lot of good things about route 40 in Va. I'm gonna ride it til it ends then ride the blue ride a bit n find back roads home. No avoiding the helmet. I know w all the gear all the time you can't go wrong but I ride most of the time without. I ride easy and I just enjoy it more without. I'm really looking forward to seeing Va and NC on backroads w my girlfriend. A good woman , a Nomad and a long ride......life is good

I live on the border of NC and VA about 1.5 hours east of BRP. If you are leaving VA Beach take US17 S out of Chessapeke VA to US158 W to Winston Salem NC then take US421 W to BRP. From there its a good ride on the BRP into VA. Then you have to get off at Meadows of Dan on US58E and take your girlfriend to "Lovers Leap" about 10 miles off of Parkway. And 40 is a good route back to VA Beach.
I hope this helps you a little on routes to take. This is a pretty ride so be safe. And keep us informed...By the way its your head to put in what ever you want...

VaRider, thanks I was wondering about those roads but couldn't find much info. You just made my trip easier as I'm gonna follow your route. I can't wait to get going

I'm heading out tomorrow from Sebastian Fl to pick up my gf in Virginia Beach for an 850 mile start to this vacation then I'm gonna follow the route VaRider gave me thru the backroads of NC and Va w some Blue Ridge riding. I have the grasshopper for when I'm riding solo and the vista cruise throttle lock freshly installed to save my arm. Gonna stop in nice places along the way and enjoy the ride and eachother. Life is good
