Ok I have done a member count and there are 20 in TX 5 in Iowa
1 in Colorado 3 in Illinois and 2 in Wisconsin. Sorry about TN could not tell which are East versus Central. Hope I did not miss anyone but beer is good.
That being said I am looking more towards Oklahoma, Arkansas or lower Missouri.
What are the thoughts of the Central Members?

Going to get another beer.LOL

Oklahoma, Arkansas or lower Missouri.

Those areas look to be the best since most will be coming from tx.

http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gifHello all, my 1st post as a new member. How about thinking of the 7th Annual Bikes, Blues and Barbeque in Fayetteville Arkansas as a geographic compromise for the regional get together ya'll have been discussing. The dates are October 3rd -6th, check out the following link for more info: http://www.bikesbluesandbbq.org/

Tulsa would be a good location. Elmer's BBQ is fantastic! There's also St. Joseph or, if you want to go a bit further up I-44, Springfield.

I grew up in MO and my family is from central MO, so I know this route pretty well.

Well, after talking with Groundhog, it appears that he is going to be a little busy over the next year to take on the duties of Rally Leader for the Central Division...so I propose this:

Bluetongue, can you take the reigns of Rally Leader and LW, will you be the Co-Leader of the Central region?

Trip

09-12-2007, 04:03 PM
Just to let you know.... the Western Region will get their sh*t together and be the National Leader as usual when it's all said and done. Good. I said it.

Just trying to get a feel for What yall want.
Oh yeah and while at the Rally how long of rides do yall want?
50 to 60 each way? shorter, longer let me know so I can scout around to find good roads to ride.

Damn this Rally planning is causing me to drink all my beer.

LW, Thanks for the help. Since we live not to far apart we need to get together and go over details when the place is decided.

I was thinking about the Mena,AR area they are used to bikers and are generally happy to accomadate groups.
I have been told that alot of the motels in Mena even give you towels to wipe the morning dew off your bikes

I've been looking through the posts and didn't see a date for the rally. Has this been set? I've never been to a rally and thought this might be an opportunity (for what I'm not sure). I'm also looking at going to the VROC meet in Cedar Park, TX in October. Let me know when & where.

I don't think anyone cares as long as you pay your tab. We had a VROC M&G in Carroll and went to a little town called Lidderdale for lunch. There were 21 bikes in a town of may be 100. there were real happy to see us as they probably did more business that day than they had in the past month. I think St. Jo or Springfield can handle us. :)

Where did you ride today?

I am scheduled to teach a class for the company at fire school in College Station Thursday and Friday. Hopefully this great weather will hold on that long. I'm planning to ride out at about 9 Wednesday night after I take a Biology test. Will be coming back Friday afternoon via Navasota, Anderson, Plantersville, Washington on the Brazos, then zooming back to Houston on 290.

Went on a short (300 mile) ride with the wife. Left the house and went through Cleveland, Romayor,Goodrich,Livingston,Onalaska,
Point Blank,Huntsville,Willis,Montgomery,Magnolia,Conroe ,and back home. We had a great time the weather was perfect.

OK, looking at the post seems that AR has been the favorite and June will work for us also.

Now lets pick a town in AR and Then the real leg work starts calling motels and Chambers of Commerce and narrowing the date down to a specific date, planning rides, Making sure the eateries can handle our numbers,etc....

I live in Northwest Arkansas and can attest to the great rides between Fayetteville and places like Eureka Springs, Jasper on the Buffalo River, and the famous Pig Trail. There are scenic byways that can get one from NW AR to Hot Springs as well. We are close to Branson MO, and Tulsa OK, Ft Smith is also very close.

Bluetongue,

My wife and I cruised around south Lake Livingston yesterday. We went from Huntsville to Point Blank, Cold Spring, Camelia, Onalaska and back to Huntsville. It was great except for all the love bugs on the east side of the lake. My bike looked like it had grown a beard. I got back in time to see the Texans beat Carolina.

Arkansas in June would be great. We have a family reunion one of the weekends in June. I'll have to find out which one. I've heard that the area around Eureka Springs is real nice.

I agree with yall a local person would be very handy to help us find lodging that is adequate for our numbers and adjacent to some great roads.

Buccaneer, in your opinion what would be the best city for the Rally to be based out of?

buccaneer
09-18-2007, 08:49 AM
Depending on the number of people there are several choices.
I think the VROC folks held one recently in Eureka Springs. Of course the big news around here was the Hells Angels were just there and still could not stay out of trouble. Apparently some Texas Banditos showed up univited. BUT that is not to say Eureka is not a good choice. This latest bit of news is not the norm for the town. It has access to some nice rides, plenty of places to stay and eat and play.

Then there is the bikes, blues, and BBQ festival in Fayetteville, it is in October. I am thinking off the top of my head right now and it is early in the office. I can suss out some other possibilities if that is what people would like. It also depends on the time of the year so what I need is number of people, time of year and how far people are willing to ride.

Buccaneer, To post pics as avatar or in signature line you have to use a 3rd party host for pics like Photo bucket(free). Upload the pics you want to use. Go to your profile and insert the link in the avatar space. To put them in your sig line just drop the link in the signature space. You will have to play around with the pictures size so they fit properly in your sig. line

I know the ride to Hot Springs from Fayetteville is a good one but I am not familiar at all with what we might find in a ride from Hot Springs to which ever direction we decide to take from there.

I still think Eureka Springs is a good bet, especially in June. It is already pretty warm in these parts by then, and I think there are more reasonable amenities there. They also have Spas, similar to those in HS for us old farts who might need a massage at the end of the day.

Thanks BT for helping me out with the Avatar and photo bucket, I figured it out after about 100 attempts - a lousy picture taken last October whilst in Amsterdam. Actually, the picture is pretty good the subject is shakey though.

My vote would be for Eureka Springs. I have heard nothing but good. I also know that there is a resort of some sort down there that caters to motorcycles. Never been there. Don't know if nice or bad or what.

Iron Horse Stables-Motorcycle Resort is the place near Eureka that dan from illinois is referring to. the link is http://www.ironhorsestables.com/features.htm

I've never been there but have heard both good and bad about it.

Scion0, I thought that would be the easiest way to narrow my search and let everyone have a say on where the Rally would be held. I know AR would be a hell of a ride for you but it seemed to be the most popular.

Yes, it about 8 hours for me... and I have never ridden that long at one time on a bike... :-)

Scion0, 8 hours is not that bad the ride will take me about 10 to 11 hours. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Here is another "Bikers only" place in Eureka. It's called the Rider's Rest Motel. Check out their site: http://ridersrestmotel.com/

I think this is the one I was talking about in an earlier post that might be a little rough but what do I know?

BT, since I live in Mesquite, I could hook up with you, even meet you in Lufkin and ride together. Makes the ride go by easier.

So, when are we going to discuss the rally again?

bluetongue

I am waiting for the Poll to run its course.(a few more days)
Once the town is selected we will start discussing the duration and days in June it will held. There are alot of details that we will talk about as the process continues.

She takes her MSF course the end of next month.

With only one day left on the poll I think we can start discussing the days in June we want the Rally. This way we can get an early jump on trying to find hotels/motels and try and get our AR members to help plan out some rides and maybe tell us where the food and beer is located. I will check the forum Monday evening to see what the poll totals are and to see any suggestions about what part of June will work for everyone.

Sounds like a plan... now, what exactly is a "rally"?

Meaning other than meeting each other and riding... is that the bulk of the rally?

For what we are doing, most likely. Spending the weekend riding, talking, drinking, eating, drinking, you get it.

We're not big enough to have vendors or bands playing, unless there's a bar with a band.

I've been trying to figure out a way to haul my bass, amp and other stuff around on my bike. Maybe if I got a trailer. As for being the band, you'd need more than me to be entertaining.

The length is one of the many things we need to figure out.
I was thinking of a 4 day weekend arrive on Thursday ride Friday and Saturday and say our goodbyes and head home on Sunday.

Scion0, The "Rally" will be as Socwkbiker described. This is due to our small group size. When our group grows larger we may be able to get some local vendors to participate. No vendor will show up for a group our size because there is no real chance of profit.

I checked the poll and it seems that majority wants Eureka Springs, AR

Well that means we have two important decisions out of the way. We know that the "RALLY" will be held in Eureka Springs,AR in June 2008.

Please post up your thoughts on length of the"RALLY"
I will check my schedule for that month to see when I/we are available to attend. Without looking it would be the 2nd or 3rd weekend due to my wife does payroll I will post the exact date .

Ok lets set the date for June 26-29 2008. Arrive Thursday or Friday morning depending on your butts ability to be in the saddle.
Rides could be set up on Friday morning for the folks that arrived on Thursday and maybe even a lunch time ride for those who show up early on Friday. We will discuss dinner plans for Friday evening and other plans as time goes on.

I would like to hear from the folks that are planning on showing up so we can try and find lodging and a place for dinner Friday night that can accommodate us.

I was there for VROC and the Riders Rest looked pretty good as did the Ironhorse. The only problem I might potentially see with the IronHorse is the bar that is on the premises. Get someone other than us there and you are just asking for trouble.

We stayed at the Country Moutain Inn and it was reasonably priced, the manager is a rider and was very accomodating. They are trying to cater more to the bikers and have little touches like a tub of towels for you to use to clean your bike and continental breakfast. (JIC- www.countrymountaininn.com) (http://www.countrymountaininn.com))

But no matter where you have it, I will most likely be there.
