View Full Version : Trailer Queen
I did my anual (33rd yr.) run with the Dogbrothers bike club and for the past 12yrs. I've hit freezing rain, hail, cold wind and snow. I live way up in the far northeastern part of Alberta. So, this yr. I decided to buy a trailer. It took 13 weeks to be custom built and delivered but well worth the wait. I pulled the trailer to my destination, Van. Island and rode the bike while there. Then back to Kamloops for a 3 day run on the bike with the boys. What a difference, no more freezing cold numbness or oh shit moments in the snow. I got home at 6am this morning after driving 13 hrs. thru the rocky mountains and great plains of alberta. I stopped in at Langley and hooked up with Rickyboy too, it was nice to chat and discuss rally stuff. This shot of the mountains is in the Banff/Canmore area where the Western Canadian rally will be this year.

What size /what options on trailer / how expensive thinking about one my wife likes to travel but not on motorcycle I would like to ride some of the places we are planning on going after she retires next year
Its a Royal xr-7 16'. Southland Trailers out of Lethbridge, Alberta builds them to order. This one was 9200. There are plenty of trailers on the market and you can get one similar starting around 6800. If your are in the states, you can get one way cheaper. There are also plenty of used ones on the market too but be careful what you don't see.
I plan to rig this one out for two bikes. I have plans for cabinets, bench, a tool crib, storage and sleeping area. Also want to wire it up for extra 12 volt circuits and a 110volt system too.

I like it Bdog! You're more subject to extreme weather shifts than most of us are. Riding in rough weather makes for some good adventure stories, but it could end in one that don't end so well.
That trailer is going to at more mile to your bike!

Thats a nice rig, it looks like it will pull easily. I have a 8x16 Unicell but I havn't used it for the bikes as of yet.
Its a lot heavier trailer that I built mainly for hauling my Argo and gear during hunting season.

Nice looking trailer! Hey, it even matches your truck and bike!
I love the Banff/Canmore area! I'm jealous the rally is going to be there. That is a BEAUTIFUL part of the country. I went skiing at Sunshine Village and Lake Louise back in Feb 2004. I loved every minute of it! Spent 6 of the coldest days I've ever experienced there, but it was well worth it! I'd go back in a heartbeat.
I can't imagine being able to ride my bike through there during the summer. Talk about some great scenery!!

Like everything you do John, that is first class and if I didn't know better....I would think Rickyboy gave you a couple of pointers on how to work in a SHAMELESS PLUG for the rally...well done...!!!

Very nice, like the "V-nose". We went with a 7x14 Out Back with the square front. Not as nice, but way cheeper ($3800.00) and doesn't get enough use to make a difference in mileage. Our intent is to use it mostly for tools and construction, with motorcycle hauling only for emergencies.
It came in really handy to get the bikes from Lynnwood, WA to Phoenix.
