I had a headlight burn out recently and although I like the amount of light cast by the Silverstar bulbs, their longevity sucks. What bulbs are recommended in the Nomads for long life and good light? I will be mounting extra light in the future, but still want the best headlight I can get.

My experience with Silverstar was different. I replaced the OEM bulb a few months after buying my bike new and never had the Silverstar fail in 3 years and over 50,000 miles.

This what I'm using. It's been installed almost a year with no problems.

I'm using the bulb that gadget uses. On his web site he talks about a 100 watt bulb. Gives plenty of light.

I had the same disappointment but I ran the high beam a lot.
I'm now using Philips 9003 X-treme Power Headlight Bulb with good results.

I like the "Motovision" (Philips) bulbs. Running them in both Vulcans.

Noticeably brighter than stock without pushing the amp draw up (I think they are 5~10 watts higher than stock IIRC)
Has a pleasant gold glow to it that catches your eye.

Have you checked in the headlight bucket for heat damage to the wiring??

I'm wondering if the added watts generate enough heat to damage anything?

I think I will get a Phillips Motovision for my next bulb. I put another Silverstar in for now. It's what AutoZone had in stock and my spare bulb that I carry is the stock bulb that came with the bike. It is dangerously dim, but got me to where I could fix it. I'll order a Phillips and carry it as a spare until the Silverstar burns out.
