I was heading to work this morning on my beautiful black steed. The distant sunlight was just tickling the jagged horizon of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The air was still crisp and necessitated leather. I knew the mid-day heat would torture me on my return in that coat but just then, it was a blessing from the cold that settles in the washes. To say traffic was light would be an understatement. At 0430 very little stirs in the small Arizona town of Catalina. I was about 3 miles south of the actual town when the darkness engulfed me. There was still the faint glow of the running lights, but they were of little use to see with. As my left thumb rose up to the beam switch there was a bit of relief in my thoughts that I did not have much farther to go and that my high beam would only be a nuisance to a very few other drivers. But as the switch was flipped,...Nothing!?!? Off to the side I drive hoping that there is no unseen debris on the shoulder. Into the left bag I go. Flashlight out and retrieve the tool kit from behind the cover. With both lights out my first line of thought is a fuse. Pull the other cover and... and... and... I can't get the damn fuse to pull out. Carefully I pull and pry and pull and pry and,...the fuse is good. I'll put the spare in just to be sure but still no headlight. Just what I don't need. Late for work and troubleshooting an electrical problem on the side of the road, in the dark with the cheapest tool kit ever made. I pulled the headlight off and checked the bulb and I could see one filament burnt. I always carry a spare bulb, so in it goes and HALLELUJAH I have light. I am so glad I kept the old bulb when I upgraded to Silverstar. When I got to work and examined the Silverstar bulb I saw where one filament burned and jumped onto the other filament. When the other was energized it caused it to instantly burn out.
