Is anyone interested in getting a rally together in Amarillo, TX? We are right in the middle of the US and would be perfect place for it.

What's there to do around Amarillo? Sightseeing? Good roads? Natural features? Landmarks? Probably hotter than hell in June, right?
I'll see for myself in October. I'm spending the night there on my way home from Antlers, OK.

That'd be a good ride for me... about 5-6 hours by car. I know there's a big state park just south of Amarillo. Doesn't it have a canyon running through it?

Palo Duro canyon! Plenty of beautiful riding. If you have not been around amarillo other than the interstate you wouldnt know. The area is amazing with winding roads and high mesas. As you leave amarillo on the north side you come into some of the finest riding in the country.

I honestly don't know what Amarillo has to offer, and I suspect most people here don't either. I'm not saying it's a good idea or a bad one, but someone needs to sell the idea to the group. Being "right in the middle of the US" isn't enough.
Some people here consider Custer SD to be the "West Coast". :D:D
Amarillo? Those are the little armored beasts, sorta like long legged turtles, right?
I agree you have to sell it. It's only in the middle if you ignore the north-south dimension, and looking on-line it appears the biggest attraction might be being able to see both Albuquerque and Tulsa if you stood on the seat of your Nomad. Looks pretty flat.

There are a lot of things to do like Palo Duro Canyon and if you want some winding roads you can got north like to Dumas. There is also the tourist trap the BIG TEXAN lol. You can get you a free 72oz steak for free. We have 6th street where all the bikes hang out and a lot of bars for bikes.

Look under the Southwest Region. The rally is at the end of May in Kanab, UT. We will be riding through Zion N.P., Bryce Canyon N.P., and to the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
Come on over if you'd like to, the more the merrier.

Here's what you do...attend a rally or two, meet some folks, and see how we do things. Then when rally planning time comes around, you present your case for Amarillo. Being convenient for you doesn't make it convenient for anyone else. Suggest places to stay, eat, ride, drink - whatever.
For example, Kanab was selected because 3 National Parks (Zion, Bryce Canyon and Grand Canyon) are nearby and the scenery is spectacular.
I'm not saying that there's anything wrong with Amarillo, just give some good reasons to hold a rally there.

Well I was actually thinking about putting one on myself and having everything planned out to the T. I will let you know if I get that together. It does not even be VBA sponsored one. Just sayin

Surprisingly, it's pretty darn close. The geographic center of the USA is at Lebanon, Kansas. It's less than 500 miles northeast of Amarillo.

From the time of the 1912 additions of New Mexico and Arizona, until the 1959 additions of Alaska and Hawaii, the NGS placed the geographic center of the entire United States at a point near the town of Lebanon, Kansas. Since 1959 this location still stands as the Geographic Center of the Contiguous United States, while the geographic center of the entire U.S. moved to a point northeast of Belle Fourche, South Dakota.
Last I heard Alaska and Hawaii are still a part of the U.S.

I read that too. Since we have no members in Alaska, and one in Hawaii, I assumed we were talking about the 48 contiguous states. I doubt Our member in Hawaii would be riding to Amarillo.
