Progressive 412 diameter?

Anyone know what the diameter (at it's largest point) of the Progressive 412 shock (for the 1600) is? I'm trying to find a skinnier shock but want to keep a quality ride. Ideally, I'd like to lose 1 1/2" per side but I highly doubt that's going to happen.

I doubt you'll find one much thinner.
Although if you search around you may find something that is made for a different purpose that will fit and carry the weight.

I'll either stick with OEM or go with Progressives. If I can't get any narrower, I'll go on to Plan B. I only need to lose 1 1/2" on each side. I can probably mould a recess in to the saddlebags for that much. Thanks.

Aren't the oem shocks about 3" diameter? And you're looking to reduce that by 1.5"?

The diameter of a 412 shock is 2 3/4" hope this helps.

If the bags are ABS i wouldn't mess with them . If they are glass it would be a snap to reses them.

I wasn't figuring to get the entire amount. I was hoping for maybe 3/4". Guess not. No biggie.

The bags are ABS (or something close to it) but I got a good deal on them so I can get my money back out of them. I can get a pair of new (aftermarket) fiberglass bags cheap (without hardware). Even with all new hardware, I'd have less in them than what I have in the "stockers". I'd have to paint the aftermarket bags (same size as HD stock) so I was hoping to make it work with OEM bags. You live and you learn. I can make a mold out of just about anything (even cardboard) then pull a couple pieces and glass them in where I need them. It'll take more work but it'll be a much better end result.

Definitely, I love working with fiberglass,
If your going to modify them I would go gangster and lengthen the bottom of the bags.
That would look cool. Plus you could build the fillers onto the back of the bags and make it look real good from the rear.

The top of the shock is millimeters away from being too tall. Either I'd need to raise the bags a 1/4" or find a way to drop the top of the shock. A couple of the places that offer fiberglass bags have a slightly bad rep for poor quality. I'll have to figure this out, though. In for a penny, in for a pound.
