I rode one of my HD friends bike (Heritage Softail) home for him (about 12 miles). Just reminded me why I chose the Nomad instead. :D

There is that much of a difference huh? What was some of the noticeable differences?

It's really "Apples to Oranges". My friend's HD has no performance mods, no windshield, no foot boards, etc. When I ride it, I have to wonder how HD gets more $$$ for it than I paid for my Nomad. :ohno:

BTW, he's the one of my HD friends that doesn't even Question my Nomad. He has ridden "Grace" several times. His comment was, "he didn't know a "Japanese" motorcycle could be that nice."

I'm not going to defend HD but. If you go over a nice HD like Scott's or Dave's and look at the quality of the paint, welds, chrome, stitching, even plastic (when needed) are vastly superior to the Metric Bikes. It's not even close.... I like my Nomad but I'm not a blind idiot to the differences either! (shuddup Tim, Gerry, Stan...Mike...yada yada yada).

the times I've ridden Dave's 96 inch ultra with Marie on the back and setting the cruise at 75 and tunes I was pleased. Yes it's a little more compact but not a giant difference.

The one-time premium for buying an HD is that comes resale time you'll get a lot of money out of a 5 year old HD.

Yea, I'm looking at em....

The ultra classic is hard to resist.. but so is a goldwing. Most manufacturers have one for two I would like to own.

If for what ever reason I end up back in the market for another motorcycle . . . I will once again look at every model available. For 2006, the Nomad was/is the best (for me). :yep:

I bought used, the nomad chose me as much as I chose it. The price was right. And it had my non-negotiable points, shaft diven, hyd clutch, fuel inj., and hard bags.

I bought a used nomad that I am very happy with. I have added a fairing, stereo, GPS, mini apes, driver's backrest, hi-way pegs, etc. I rode my best friends 2005 ElectraGlide Ultra the other day and I have to say that I was not really that impressed with it as compared to the Nomad. My Nomad rides smoother and not as compact. The performance was pretty much the same. The noticable difference was that the Ultra's seat was more comfortable and the steering seem to be a little easier. But, for the price difference between the 2 bikes, I would take my Nomad over his Ultra any day of the week.

:wtf: What, I thought the Triumph was going to be your next bike?
Oh, wait, that was back when you were single. Now you need to have that comfy passenger seat. http://vulcanbagger.com/forums/images/icons/ornwink.gif

If you take away the verbal diarea of harley harley harley and just look at the bike. Bd is right, the overall assembly of the harleys is far superior( paint, decals, welds and refining). Its really hard to compare for me because both bikes have there own charactoristics.
As for resale value..hmm..a stock 07 Nomad is worth around 10k. A stock 07 road king classic is about 8k in Canada. Why is this..because Harley has copyed the Japanese..mass produced. So it goes to supply and demand which brings down used harley prices. I have a 2011 streetglide bagger in my shop that I maintain and make items for. I can ride it anytime and have. Its a beautiful bike and unique in its own way. I like it but I like the Nomad better. As for now, I'll ride the Nomad for at least one or two more seasons, then I'll be looking at a new bike again. Not sure if I'll keep the Nomad or park it in my living room.
IMO..bottom line is what you want..go get it. Bdog

The way I look at it is real simple every person that rides like their bike for one reason or anther, Me I just don't like harleys that much to pay the price they want for them I got a used Nomad and my wife got a new 883 and I don't ride hers because I don't like it, My vulcan 800 classic sounds just as good as hers and it rides better IHO. But I'll ride with anyone on any thing just as long as their bike will do atleast 55mph.

A softail isn't a good comparison. Like you said, ride one of the touring bikes. I found the HD handles way better, especially at low speed.

So when are you picking up the new bike?

I might take a test ride on a Road King on Saturday, but I'm not looking to buy. IMHO, that's as close as they have to my Nomad. I've heard from several that H-D has made major improvements since I bought the Nomad. This is my "Show me/Proove it" ride.

I road a victory a couple of months ago.
It was a very nice bike. I road the bagger with the batwing
They had a used one that was just a grand cheaper than a brand new vaquero.
That was pretty much a deal breaker LOL

If it's an '09 or newer touring model, it has the redesigned frame.

 + stock 103 c.i. ('06 was a 96 c.i.?) + 6 speed + improved fuel mileage + counter balanced crank shaft + they addressed some of the cooling issues. "Grace" is still my #1 pick and she's paid for. If I get in the market for a new one, I'll look at everything available. That's how I got the Nomad.

Harley 103", pipes, fuel processor and screamin eagle intake compared to Nomad 95", pipes, fuel processor and single intake are equal in accelloration. The Harley will out pull it on top end and it will get better fuel milage at high speed (70-100 mph) cruising. The comparison my buddy and I did on these two bikes were; 60mph cruising..same fuel consumption...100mph cruising..the Nomad drank 1 u.s. gal more for the same mileage. The difference was the Harley is a 6 speed.
