I picked up a used Airhawk for $45 and gave it a try today. Rode almost 2 hours and 100 miles and never once shifted position due to being uncomfortable. I did rotate positions using highway pegs when I could, as I normally do. I usually would be shifting my butt around a bit after maybe about 50 miles, and after 100 miles my tailbone would be sore enough that it is painful to stand up / get off the bike. Not today!
I was off the bike for about 1.5 hours, then rode the 100 miles back home, again no discomfort. I will admit that when I hopped of the bike I felt just a tinge of that old feeling, but wasn't much and lasted just a few seconds. Not sure how long before I give it a full day test, but very please... much more than I expected, at this point.

I just got one too. Haven't gone on a voyage yet, but I like how it sits me up higher and it does take some pressure off the tailbone.

My wife was complaining about her bike seat so I got one for her. She said it felt like sitting on a diaper full of crap. I now own her slightly used Airhawk seat and really like it.

+1! I've had an Airhawk 2 for about 2 years and love it. I had it on my Honda VFR800 and have transferred it over to the Nomad.
If you get one, make sure you read the directions. You actually want just enough air in it to get your tailbones off the seat. If it feels too squishy...you might have too much air in it.
It's also a great cure for one of the worst riding conditions...sweaty butt!
Enjoy.

The Airhawk's are made of the same stuff my M-I-L had for a pad on her wheel
chair. She didn't like it when there was too much air in it. I would think that the
Airhawk would be a great thing to have on a long trip.

I totally agree and have had mine for a couple of years.
Getting the air right is the hard part. Almost no air is better than too much air.

THANX for the info. Recently i installed a gel pad onmy Vaquero. I am disappointed in it, kinda uncomfortable. I was hoping to improve on my Diamond modified seat but after a few hundred miles it's staying off the bike. When i had this seat done i was over 30 pnds heavier than i am now (235 then, 208 now), so i don't have as much butt as when the seat was first done, and it was fine then. I need more butt back there "butt" this is first time in ages i have weighed this low, and i plan on dropping even more pnds.

Airhawk arrived today from ebay. It "seems" like it's going to be a nice relief from hot butt. Obviously I'm going to have to ride a few times before the western rally to settle on the air amount but I'm hopeful.

This may sound strange, but when you sit down on them it sounds like you shit your pants.
Of course you probably won't notice a difference. :lmao:

Seriously the air amount is everything. I blew it up to less than what I thought was half, and it was too much. But good place to start as long as you can release air on the fly... easy to reach down and release air.
I found what feels to be perfect for riding, when you get off you think the thing is completely flat. But that is best to spread the pressure points

took a 265 mile ride in 95 degree temps yesterday. Although not a miracle seat the "hawk" did make a difference. Where I'd pull up to a light in this kind of weather and want to stand up and give my overheated ass (not Scott!) a break I didn't have to the the Air hawk. I played around with the pressure and it seems to be just right. Tail bone just above the seat is where I have it inflated.
