For the past couple of years I've been using a couple of fishing rod holders as flag mounts while on PGR rides. These have been clamped to the back rest bar on my 1600 Nomad. While it has worked, I haven't been real satisfied with them. Mostly because they tend to work loose.

So, I've been searching for a better solution. One that I found is a farily nice chromed unit that mounts to a trailer hitch. However, it was rather pricey and they rated it for "parade" speeds only. I needed something that would handle highway speeds with two 3' by 5' flags.

What to do? Call Joe Norris, otherwise known as Chuckster.

I sent off an email describing what I was looking for, along with a rough drawing. Mainly, a two flag holder that would mount into the receiver of a trailer hitch.

About two days later he replied with an estimate of $70 which included shipping.

I gave him the go ahead along with an order for one of his excellent trailer hitches. Had to have a hitch to mount it to, of course.

About 10 days later the two boxes arrived.

I am a happy camper.

Since nothing is fact without pictures, here you go:

How do you know which side the U.S. Flag should be on?

It's always on the right side of the vehicle.

That is excellent Bob and great craftsmanship by Joe. Of course, I'm hoping my good friend Kawhead will post a picture of his surf fishing/flag holder set up.

Does it affect the exhaust sound any?

I wonder if he could fab up a smaller version to hold one flag from the sissy bars. I was thinking of the smaller flags and maybe something in a figure "8" configuration that would hold the flag(s) parallel to the bar?

The bigger hole would have to be 3/4" and the smaller one about 1/4"? Maybe in two halves with a bolt in the middle to tighten everything down? I dunno, just throwing ideas out there.

I've wanted to fly a small flag from my passenger's backrest and I don't have (nor do I like) the luggage rack. There just doesn't seem to be anything out there that would work. I've seen some that are similar, but the hole that attaches it to the bike is too small or attaches to a square bar.

Yes, it does. I get an echo off the flag holder which makes it sound a little louder than normal.

If you put casters on the bottom of it, you'll have a wheelie bar too!
