Taking a loooong trip from Reno, NV to NW Arkansas in July. Looking for help from you long haulers as to what to bring for the bike and what roadside assistance packages you find best. Any and all advice is appriciated!!

Go with the AMA (American Motorcycle Association). I used to have AAA, but switched over last year. AMA has cheaper yearly membership than AAA and covers everyone in your household for the one cost. I used them to tow my car the next day after signing up! No problems at all.

As far as long haul rides, I haven't done anything huge yet, so I can't help you there. I would suggest drinking lots of water and lots of sunscreen for the month of July.

AMA here. Haven't used them on my motorcycle but have on my pickup when my water pump went out.

We broke down on our motorcycle in the middle of nowhere on a 105 degree day. I learned the hard way that I wanted a policy that would fully take care of me. Not just reimburse me.

So now I have the Allstate RV towing package. It covers any vehicle we are in, even if it is not our car, or if it is an RV or motorcycle. I believe they will tow up to 100 miles to get you to a certified dealer or home. We got a nice discount on the policy since we were Allstate customers.

A roadside service man told me recently that many popular roadside policies are actually through Allstate and he likes getting those service calls.

My insurance company covers me for road side assistance, so I can't help much in that department.
As for extras for the bike I bring a small zip bag ( mens toiletry bag or kids large pencil case works well) with a few decent wrenches, sockets and ratchet, couple good screw drivers, electrical tape, duct tape, a small spool of brass wire and a leather man type knife. I also have in a second small bag tire plug kit and compressor, tire gauge, flashlight and compact jumper cables. In a big zip lock I carry a wet bug sponge and a chamois. I also carry engine oil in a 1/2 quart size bottle in a separate zip lock bag.

I have American Motorcycle Association road side service free as I have my membership automatically paid each year.
But, I had my bike towed to the dealer where I bough it instead of the place they wanted me to have it towed to. Even though they were the same distance the operator said my dealer was further and they charged me $50.
