It's really no big deal, yet I'm super happy with how it turned out. Never really liked my backrest and although functional for the mostpart the support wasn't where I really needed it and it looked kinda stupid (like a big ol lollipop).
Did a little chop cut rebuild and now it's right where I want it.
Had four mounting holes. Cut off the top two and now just using the lower two holes so effectively dropped it down about 3". Cut away some foam and reshaped (fancy word for bent with pliars) the metal backing plate so it would be lower and conform to the back of the driver's seat. Now it has less flex due to taking away some of the leverage (shortened) and the support is right in the lower back where I needed it. Finally a functioning backrest that looks the way I want it to. The cover is zippered so easily removed to make mods and put it back on.
Oddly enough this cheapo little backrest has a polished stainless steel mounting plate. I thought it was chromed mild steel. Completely ruined my bandsaw blade when I attempted to cut it.
I know it's a stupid little thing when we've got guys laying up their own fairings from raw fiberglass, but it's all I've got.........
The last photo is the before picture and you can see how tall it was before cutting it down.
