View Full Version : Ceramic Coated Exhaust Update
Rode in 80 degrees today in heavy traffic. My choice. I could not feel heat on my leg. Put my hand close to the rear pipe and was just very warm but not hot. The ceramic coating is a winner so far. Will have to see what upper 80s to 90 feels like. But that is as hot as we get. It will be awhile till then. Mind you our normal high here in wisconsin is 40 right now and we are having some serious global warming. But kinda likeing it.

That was one of the best mods i did to my old sport bike. Hope you like it on your bike.

I've heard about ceramic coating but have never actually seen it done. How is it done? Do you have only your header pipes coated & re-install your heat shields so the coating doesn't show? Do you coat inside & out? Stock mufflers? Thanks!
Nice bike BTW! I have the same bike, same color & added the trunk kit & apes. Sweet ride!

I just had the header pipe done and then it was covered by the heat shields. I wraped the crossover pipe to the left muffler. The heat process they use would discolor the chrome muffler. The pipe looks like chrome. The ceramic is soaked into the metal pipe at high temp inside and out. The pipe is no thicker when done. So gaskets fit perfect. Heres a pic before and after and the wraped crossover.

How much did this process cost?

I had someone do it local. So no shipping cost. The cost was $149.00 It was classic custom coatings in Sheboygan Wi. They coat inside and out. Some only do the outside. So you have to ask. The nice thing is it dont smell bad like wrapping does. I can smell alittle of the wrap i did on the crossover pipe. That has pretty much burned off now after 300 miles.

Had the pipes on my Buell done by "Jet Hot", made a world of difference on that air cooled heater. Stayed real nice looking too.

Not bike related, but I had my valve covers and tunnelram done for my boat motor. Stuff's great. Easy to keep clean and looks good too. Jethot is right here in Arizona. I've used them several times on a couple different boats and it's always turned out well. Not sure about motorcycle pipes, but boat headers will frost for the first 6" of pipe to the flange/cylinder head. The coating is still on, but takes on a rough texture and loses it's shininess.
You didn't mention it ragnagwar so I'm guessing this was a non-issue? Maybe it's due to higher EGTs on our stuff. That or the fact that the pipes are so close together at the flange. Dunno but our boat motors always do it and I've seen lots of em.
