Guy down here with an 07 SG has a shotgun mount holding Mossberg 12ga pistol grip short barrel pump....thinking of making one for my Vaquero...

I'd prefer a turret mounted mini-gun that only takes one hand. JK

I'd really like to be able to carry a shotgun on my bike and I'm brainstorming to come up with a mount. Although it's probably for a different reason than our friend pictured here. Can't do what I want with a pistol grip and that short barrel (not very well anyway). I'm a big fan of skeet, trap, and sporting clays and would like to be able to ride my bike to the local range. My gun would have to be cased though. I don't want road grime on it. Toying around with some ideas but nothing concrete yet.

I've ridden my bike on shoot days several times before, but had one of my buddies carry my guns and ammo for me in his truck. I like to be self-reliant.

That should get the LEO's attention as you ride through different states.:ohno:

Ive travelled with my encased rifle on the bike before, and strapped it on the rear floorboard standing up, tied to the bag rails and Tour Pak.

I have to think that almost all LEOs would want to have a conversation with you when passing by them.:D

Why, you have to ask why?
Because you are on a motorcycle which makes you stand out,add to that you have a weapon in plain sight which may or may not be loaded and is a short barreled shotgun which may be to short to be legal.
If that isn't enough reason for a LEO to go on a fishing expadition I don't know what is.

Here in the south people travel with rifles and shotguns in their cars and trucks all the time. I have done it many a time myself. Don't think they are supposed to be loaded but you can carry them. If you are riding with a rifle or shotgun on a motorcycle I wouldn't think it would break any laws. I have ridden with a bowling ball tied down on the back seat and if used right you could do a lot of damage and even kill someone with it.

Granted, it's common in P/U trucks in the rural areas of the West. (Easy Rider gun rack) However, I can just see that motorcycle motoring through Las Vegas and drawing LEOs like flies on you know what. I might add that it would be legal, but still a long conversation would be had.:yep: But some people just have to draw attention to themselves.

I think he meant why bother doing it Tim and if not, it sure is my question why bother doing it at least the obvious way in the pic.

I am a LEO and yes it would draw attention but don't see off the top of my head that there would be anything illegal about it. Doesn't require a carry permit.
I carry every where I go and on the bike is no exception. I have been wanting to get a Rossi Ranch Hand and put it in a scabbard on the front forks like the old WW2 Army Bikes. But I don't want the added attention!! I already wear a vest with my LE club information all over it and the added long gun on the bike would just draw too many looks...LOL

It's so he can put the bike out of it's misery (and his) when it breaks down.

The idea makes plenty of sense for a Law Enforcement agency. Not so much for the rest of us.

I see a lot of utility to carrying a long gun in addition to a sidearm. It's only prudent to do so. That said, this set up leaves a lot to be desired. It's too slow to aceess and vulnerable to the elements. Think about the set up i laid out below. Personally, i am a much bigger advocate of the carbine over the shotgun in my experience. Why not just mount a scabbard for transport and quick access then use a cable lock for security when parked. You could just secure the trigger guard or even go through the receiver ejection port and around the frame.

At the last of the pictures are magazine covers... one of them replicates the guy going down the hill. It must have impressed them enough to use it.

Wonder if he actually made it down the hill without falling over... something we'll never know.

Cool pics for sure! That downhill one looks like a rush. I see that picture was taken near me here in Colorado Springs. Only it would have been at Camp Carson in 1944. It didn't become Fort Carson until 1954.

If that hill had been any steeper, physics would have had him tumbling ass over tea kettle all the way down. Not the kind of rush I'd look for.

Perfectly legal in TX, was talking to the guy about the shotgun, when a state trooper pulled up...he asked if they dude would build him a similar mount for his AR15!

I have to think that almost all LEOs would want to have a conversation with you when passing by them.:D

When my brother Robert went down, the cops on the scene said "we know you all have guns...just keep them hidden and we won't have any problems".

All I can say is "WHY?"

WHY NOT! ;-)

The police generally leave us alone, and know that most of us carry...a shotgun in East TX is more common than a motorcycle...I live in a rather sparsely populated area ....if you count the 2 major cities in our 3 county area, there might be 150K...

;-) One thing I have noticed...when dad carries he waves at officers... (but he is just a motorcycle owner)

I was thinking a mount for a ball peen hammer.

Hammer would work. What about a sling shot? You could use that while you were moving.

Years ago I saw an article about a Honda Valkyrie that had a shotgun somehow camouflaged into the bike's handle bars. It was parked and spotted by LE at a federal park and instantly impounded. - Be careful

A trailer would solve your problem, plenty of room for gun and ammo.....
