I am getting a stereo for my faring that comes with the wiring to use your switches on the steering wheel in a car. does someone make a switch that I could use on the handelbars that would work with this setup?
could I use the hand controls from a vaquero or voyager

My Kenwood marine stereo had a remote that you can mount on the handle bar but they are a little bulky in size but will work. I haven't seen a universal control that will work with my stereo.

I acttualy thought about going to a junk yard and getting a steering wheel and gutting the switch out of it.
sony use to have a knob switch that would run the hole unit back before remotes were popular

I have one similar to "zooms". it's a bit smaller I think. It's wireless and is for the Alpine head unit. Works just fine.

I also had a wireless remote with my unit, thats the simplest way to do it. No wires!

I like that idea
I thought about mounting up on the handelbar by the left hand
Im making my own custom bars so I could incorperate a mount into them
the remote really would be best although this is a big 2din 7" flatscreen with dvd,gps,bluetooth,I-pod. I dont know how much of that the remote will control.Im trying to mount it so I can reach the screen without to much trouble

your remote should controll everything you need to operate while riding if I get a chance I will take a pic of mine and post it.

I realize this is no help, but that's one of the reasons I bought my new bike with a fairing - to have the integrated controls on the switch housings.

The JVC stereo I had in the Reckless fairing on my Nomad had a remote, but I didn't mount it anywhere because I thought it looked cheesy. I'm a form over function kind of guy.

Im more of a make my own thing kind of guy
If I could afford a vaquero One would be setting in my shop right now and I would be modifying the shit out of it
but money is the one thing I dont have alot of. I do have skills though so
with them I can have form and function

I think if you priced a set of switch housings from a Vaquero or Voyager, you might change your mind about that idea.

Im thinking more along the lines of ebay
and the controls off just about any bike
kawai would be ideal but maybe one off a gold wing or anything
I really liked the other dudes idea about making the remote work
build some kind of cool housing for it? but if i could find a handelbar control I would definatly check into it

I found one of those Sony marine controllers on eBay.
as soon as my stereo arrives I will find out if it is conpatable.
It is big but I can make a housing to mount it under the left hand control
Sony also makes wireless controllers but i don't know if they are conpatable either

If you're talking about one like this http://www.crutchfield.com/p_158RMX60ML/Sony-RM-X60M-L.html#details-tab , it's HUGE. It's sort of supposed to take the place of the stereo (so you can mount the stereo out of sight). 3 1/2" diameter and 1 1/2" deep.

the one I found is 2 1/2 " round by 2 1/2" deep
big but not to big

Mine is the Kenwood controller but its wired. Its big but not too bad. I made a bracket so it mounted off my mirror. Perfect place because I could control it with my thumb while riding. I didn't like the color but it worked good.

Its a Sony head unit now. I failed to mention the remote is a KENWOOD KCA-RC60MR WIRED MARINE BOAT REMOTE CONTROL I had on the bike when I had a Kenwood marine head unit. I got the remote on ebay for about $12. The stereo had a code pop up in it after a heavy rain and I didn't know how to get the code out so I sold it and got the Sony. I sold the remote with the Kenwood. I do want to get a remote but the Sony remote seems a little larger.
