To anyone who has gutted their converter on the 1700 Vaquero, Voyager or Nomad how did you do it? I have added V&H slash cuts, Thunder Air Kit and Cobra FI2000R fuel processor to my 2010 Voyager and read that along with those up grades gutting the converter helps with better exhaust flow. What advantages did you notice after gutting the converter?

Gutted the goatbelly on my 1600 Nomad. Dont do it. More noise, less power.

Thanks for the response. I did a search and found a lot of negative feed back.

Why dont you remove the converter and replace it with some exhaust pipe, then you will have a true duell exhaust system. A muffler shop should be able to fix you up with what is required.

I never thought of that. I'll check with the local muffler shops to see what they can do. Thanks for the suggestion.

I didn't think a 1700 had a "goat belly"? Where is the converter you're referring to?

I just assumed that they did to pass emmissions when built. I didn't pay attention when I installed my slip ons, will take a look and see.

This has been on my mind...thanks for bringing it up....I will keep an eye on this thread!! I like the idea of getting rid of the goatbladder ringadingh brought up.

On my Vaquero, the cats are integrated into the mufflers, not a goat belly. I did, however, gut them by cutting the end of the muffler out, removing the cat material, inserting a solid tube, and welding it all back together. MUCH less heat from the engine after that.

-Just today I dropped off my Vaquero to begin the custom exhaust work needed for my Yoshimura mufflers I'm putting on. ;0)

I added slip ons so I assume that removed the cats.

And your slip ons add just the right amount of back pressure.
