No offense... but I am suspicious of this being real. Too many tell-tale signs it has been photoshopped... :hmm:

Just saying...

Besides... looking at the road surface... I don't care how good you are on a bike, you are not going to last too long on a road like that.:hmm::cheers:

I may stand corrected on one point; which is that riding a motorcycle on a road like this is virtually impossible...

Check out this video... these guys prove I could be wrong...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=ZL5M1vmZKWc

However, I still stand by the photoshopped statement... and this video helps my point on that.

Like the drooping flag? Would it not be "flying" out a bit more at any speed?

glwilson

Depending on the shutter-speed of the camera, the flag may or may not be flowing in the wind -- however that point is one of the reasons it looks photoshopped.

The most obvious is the color variations. The bike's color is far too vivid and is in stark contrast to the surrounding vehicles. This is typically due to a different lighting on the original motorcycle picture than the one in which it was placed.

Another give-away is that no matter where you see this photo (and it is floating-around on the web) it is only in a small format -- which helps hide photoshopped evidence.

The snow-flakes between the camera and bike, when looking very closely in photoshop enlargements, give way to evidence they were added. There is even a pattern to them -- which is typical when trying to show a lot of the same thing.

However, look at the vid I posted... these guys are nuts!!! So it evidently isn't impossible to travel on two-wheels with an inch or so of snow.

Having crashed last May on a slick surface... you wouldn't even get me to consider trying what these nuts are doing...:D

I think it could be a real pic, if he's just creeping slowly in traffic the flag would be hanging like that and sometimes you do get very large snowflakes falling.
A couple years ago I got caught in a snowstorm on the way to Niagara Falls for a few miles. While the snow was falling quite heavily and making visibility poor, most of it was melting on the roadway.

Next time we will go from Baie-Comeau Quebec to Blanc Sablons Above Newfoundland in 10 days. A bit short of 4000 kilometres. Stay tuned! There is still a few seats available on the trek. Contact me at Paul@PaulMondor.com

What do you say we grab our heated clothing, put truck snowtires on the bikes and give it a try.
We could call ourselves the whitedarksiders. Oh, wait, that may offend some of the Afro American darksiders so maybe we could be the winterdarksiders.:yep:

If you zoom in on the picture, you can see variations in the edges at the top left of the motorcyclist, as well as the differences in the number of pixels between the motorcycle and the cars.

Here is some clarification:
Rick Wegner has this picture as his profile picture on facebook. On the picture this is what it said:
Every once in awhile a photo so completely describes the spirit, passion, and dedication of the people of Patriot Guard Riders, it has to be shared. This was taken on the West Coast, last Sunday(1/15/12). It was taken by Q Madp. Q runs a website for ALL the KIA's. Iraqiwarheros.org
I am not friends with Rick on facebook but the comments he had under the picture are:

-Also want you all to know this was at a mission in Oregon. Don't know if this guy is going to, or coming from the mission.

-Found out the guy riding the bike is Ed, but don't know the last name. The picture was taken by a guy named Q Madp. Q runs a website for ALL the KIA's. Iraqiwarheros.

Someone else added” He is one of the Patriot Guard Riders. They are called in to protect the families of fallen heroes from the losers that find a need to protest the wars by disrespecting them and the families. It's funny to see just how quiet they are with 50+ Bikers watching over them ..

Sorry for the misinformation that it was Rick Wegner.

Exactly... when enlarged... this photo is fake I am afraid. Pixels don't just vary by themselves in photos... at least not as badly as this shows.

I had this happen to me last year in March. I brushed the snow off with a broom and rode 25 miles home in rush hour traffic. Luckily the roads were warm enough most of it was melting but I was still puckered up for the whole ride.

Greg, I'm a testament to this being done. In October 2010 when crossing a mountain pass taking a short cut to Cedar City, UT. We were 2 up on a wet road with snow on the ground beside us. We came around a corner and the road was covered in snow. 1-2" in fact. I slowed to 20 or so and stayed pretty much in a set of tire tracks in the snow. Crossed the summit and it a couple miles was back on a wet road. All in all we travelled about five miles on snow. I squeezed that bike so had with my hands, knees and butt that I left marks.

Was it easy . . . hell no and I don't imagine ever doing it again if I can help it. However, I had one of those dangeroues CTs on the back and don't think i could have pulled it off without it.

I can tell you it's not impossible to ride on ice on a motorcycle as I did so for around 50 miles last year. We had an ice storm which lasted about 6 days. By the third day, my office sent out an email saying the office would open at 10 am (a friday). I looked out my back window and the driveway was still covered in ice (as was the alleyway). I figured the streets must must be better and well, They said come in, right? It was 24 miles one way to work so I got on my bike (thank god for gerbings heated gear!) and took off.

My average speed was probably no more than 5-8 miles an hour. It took me around 2-3 hours to get there and when I finally did, they all called me nuts (Heck I was!). I only stayed there until 3:30 and figured I didn't want to ride on this crap in the dark. I was about 8 miles from the house going home when I finally dropped the bike (It was a 1998 Honda Magna 750) but since I was going so slow, it didn't really do anything. The guy behind me helped me lift it back up as doing this in the ice was not easy! I went another 3 miles with a stupid idiot driver literally riding my ass (she was about a cars length behind me the whole time). I saw a parking lot and pulled in (there was dry spot) and parked the bike. This stupid lady pulled in with me and asked if I wanted her to take my bike home (she was in a pickup truck). I told her she was an idiot for following me so damn close. If I'd have gone down again, there's no way she couldn't have stopped from hitting me! I tried getting a tow truck out to help but they wouldn't come because of the ice. I called a friend to come pick me up and left the bike there for the next 3 days until the ice was gone and rode it home.

Let me say, I will NEVER ride in the ice again. It almost gave me a damn ulcer!

Okay - so a year ago in September (I think) the weather was great, about 65 degrees, it was 2 o'clock or so, I needed to take a short run to a parts house and decided "one more ride before she gets parked" and took off on the motorcycle. As I turned north, I could see a storm cell way off in front of me. No big deal, I'm only gonna be about 45 minutes enroute. Just before I hit the parts house, it started raining. I grabbed my parts and decided to head for home - what's a little rain, right? Well, about 2 miles down the road it started snowing! It covered my windshield, so I was looking over it and my face shield got covered. I had to open my faceshield so I could see and I drove about 5 miles in a snow storm much like the one in the picture. By the time I got home I was nearly frozen and just about out of adrenaline, but I made it! I had to peal my hands off the grips and the seat out of my puckered butt!

Don't care to repeat that!

Tim

I had a very similar experience last June while travelling through the Kootenay Pass in southern British Columbia. There was enough traffic so that there was a clear trail through the snow but it was a wet road and snow was sticking to my winshield and glasses (wearing a 1/2 helmet). The scariest part was big trucks riding my ass on the descent from the top of the pass. If I would have slid on snow or ice and gone down I would have just been a splat on the road.

I hope that I never encounter those riding conditions ever again!

Hey... I'm not talkin'... I'm just saying.

Anyway... about the video with the guys riding in snow. It reminds me of a show I saw about 15 years ago about a guy who lived with wild grizzlies in Alaska. My wife and I said then it was a matter of time before we heard about him being eaten by the bears. Well... it took a few years, but it happened.

My guess is... a few in that riding club are destined for a sorry-ending eventually. Just a matter of time...:ohno:
