I've been hearing a lot of hype about putting nitrogen in tires instead of air. Some say tires wont leak down as fast, they run cooler and many other benefits. If you want the truth type mojolever in google, go to the bottom of the page and you'll find the nitrogen answers.

I think plain old air is good enough for anything our bikes will need to endure. I check my tire pressure quite regularly and don't find it a problem with losing air. Once in a while it takes a couple pounds but not enough to worry about switching to nitrogen.

My thoughts exactly BD. I think some tire shops offer it so they can charge you for it. Top fuelers have run over 250mph for years with air in the tires, as well as a lot of other vehicles that place a lot of stress on tires with no problems. Im sure its just a marketing ploy.

There are a few good points to using nitrogen , but I dont see any great benefit to bikers. NASCAR has been using it for years in all of their tires. They claim that it's easier to make small adjustments in pressure with nitrogen. Air is 75% nitrogen anyway. I'm with you guys.

BD is right, as usual, at least in this room. About the only legitimate point to NItorgen us is that most the other 20% of regular air is oxygen and that causes oxidation, the breakdown of material. Takes many years before being noticeable on tire material even if 45 psi in the tire quadruples the number on O2s in contact with inside surface, and of course, kind of hard to keep it away from the outside of the tire.

you can use it in your shocks and your blowup doll as well

Thank you Mr. Wizard!

My tires don't stay on the bike long enough to matter. I wear em out too fast.

who's AD is that? Certainly not the tire manufacturers or they would recommend it and then extend the warranty!!

We used to use nitrogen in the race tires for two reasons: 1-nitrogen seemed to keep the tire pressure up longer than air (race tires have thin sidewalls and will deflate overnight with air) and 2-nitrogen didn't expand when the tires went from ambient to race temperatures therefore the tire pressure stayed close to original setting (some of this may have been due to the fact that the nitrogen was "dry" as opposed to the air being "moist". That's just my 2cw

that's what I would think would be beneficial the most is the temperature factor with the constant PSI. It would work great in shocks.

If the stuff didn't work do you really think NASCAR would be using it?????????????????????
