Anyone using this phone for navigation on their nomad? Wife got me one for christmas and it has built in navigation but how to mount to the bike?

Thanks!

Merry Christmas all by the way!

Not sure what an Andriod X2 is but maybe RAM makes a mount for it ?

If you're talking about the phone, it's the Droid X2. I've got an original Droid X and use it exclusively for nav. I use Google navigation. You can find that in the app store/market.

Here are a couple of the RAM mounts. http://www.ram-mount.com/CatalogResults/PartDetails/tabid/63/partid/082065077045072079076045085078055066085/Default.aspx

Neither of those are phone specific. I'm not sure where I'll mount mine with the fairing.

There are two types of GPS with mobile phones, AGPS and GPS. AGPS is assisted GPS, and required a connection to work. That is probably something you'll want to keep in mind before you get out in the middle of nowhere. I actually prefer the GPS on my INC2 over my Garmin.

A ram mount or universal mount ought to work just fine.

I use Ram Mount...solid product, can't beat it in my opinion.

I can get a better satellite signal (GPS) in the middle of nowhere than in the city. Less things (buildings, etc) to get in the way. I can't speak for all GPS apps, but I've been places where I haven't had either a voice or data signal and the GPS still worked flawlessly. I like the Google Nav app (based on Google Maps, of course) as it's constantly updated. If the destination has been updated to street view, it will show that as you get very close to where you're going. Great if you're in a city and looking for a specific address (as opposed to only wanting to get to a town in general). Half the places I go have lots of houses that all look the same. Nice to see an actual pic of the house (even if the street view is a couple years old).

I used to have a Samsung phone that I figured I could use for GPS, unfortunately it was useless in areas with no cell signal, which kind of left me with no GPS on a couple of occasions, such as the return trip from Custer. First thing I did when I got home was order a Garmin GPS. Now I have a Droid X phone and have not used the navigation feature, since I have the GPS.

I had the X2 mounted on my Vaquero by buying a Garmin GPS mount and a Motorola Car dock. The Garmin Mount uses the same size ball for the mount as the Motorola Car dock and all I had to do was snap on the Motorola Car dock if I wanted to use the Android or the Garmin Dock if I wanted to use my Garmin. Also I hooked up an Android charger in the fairing so that the phone charges when I am riding and ran an audio cable to the stereo so I could listen to music from my phone. Passed the X2 on to my son and I have the RAZR now but the car dock still uses the same size ball for mounting so my mount is still being used. These are just plastic but on the Vaquero you really can't see it once the dock is on it and Amazon sells them for $10. I have about 7,000 miles with this mount and no problems.

fortunately my new Samsung Galaxy S2 droid had built in real GPS with talking navigation. Once I get a A2DP Headset, Probably the Sena Sm10 I'll be able to bluethooth all my phone calls and talking GPS and music loaded on my phone to my helmet...

Can you create a specific route on the GPS that comes on the phone?

What is the name of the app? Can't find anything under "google navigation".

I also use my Android Phone for the Google Navigation, it shows and speaks all the turn by turns you need to know to get to your Destination. It is running Gingerbread Version of Android and is on a HTC phone. Google Navigation is FREE.

I use it in my cars and on my Vaquero.

Old Crow --- It's in there somewhere. Beats the OEM nav that came on the phone. Could be on the Google site, I guess. I'll look when I get home.
