View Full Version : Windshield wiper?

Has anyone fitted one? I saw a link for a wiper with a motor (http://www.peerclear.com/) but it looked like something you would see in an old tractor or Landrover!
I would consider fitting one that you can use by hand but I haven't been able to see one on the net. Has anybody used one and if so what do you think of them?

This is probably the nearest thing to what I want but it doesn't exactly look wonderful!

Could be something nice to have. I have never seen one in use. I usually keep a soft cloth and reach over and wipe the windshield if I am ever caught in the rain.

Most riders look over the windshield, not through it. Ideally, the top of the windshield should be about nose level. I just don't see how this would do much good unless you're very short or you have a really tall windshield. It might actually be a bad thing as it might tend to push the water over the top of the windshield instead of some going around it.

I tend to NOT ride in the rain except for the occasional time I trust the weatherman. (He says it'll be partly cloudy but really means it's gonna storm cats and dogs.)

Looks like one I got from JCwhitney years ago for and old VW baja bug I had. The least little bit of dirt or grit would ruin a plastic windshield, even the hard coated ones.

^^^Yup, slightest bit of dust/bugs + wiper = scratched up shield for sure. It'd be different if it were glass. I'll look over mine in the rain.

+1, plastic windshields WILL scratch real easy.

The G/W's in Japan had them available, I don't think its a must have item, but some opinions may differ.

Apparently they do things a little different in Ireland.:D

I sure would not use one. I carry a chamois tucked in behind the windshield and can give it a wipe at traffic lights, gas stops etc. I am looking slightly over not through the windshield and in rain I ride with neoprene gloves. Besides being warm and fairly dry, they make a great squeegee just wiping my hand across my face shield at any time.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, TBH it's more for my Heritage that has a very tall screen as my Nomad's screen is just perfect. I have not until tonight (its gone midnight here as I write this now) met anyone who will take on with cutting it down but I just met a mechanic who will do it for me and says he has done several so I think thats the way to go:tup:

It's an important thing here as it rains more often than not and when it starts it can last for weeks!

I wouldn't even consider it, first off you should be looking over your windshield not though it, especially when its raining. I would just keep a good coat of wax on your windshield so that the beads roll off quickly.

Almost as practical as air conditioning on a bike, and that exists also.

OK I have to call you on it, which bike has air conditioning?

Dave --- Google "motorcycle air conditioning". There are tons of links to that. Seems like it would be a fairly limited client base, but it's still out there. I suppose it would be a good idea if it kept the AZ/SoCal/NM/TX riders in full leathers in the summer but can't really see much other use for it.

If you don't believe in air conditioning for a bike then how about this;

People often say I'm as useless as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. And I say to them, "You're right."

I always thought the most descriptive of the "that's as useful as" comparisons, was a screen door on a submarine.:lmao:

You really really need to go riding more often!!! :bird::tup:

Yes it does, I thought it was strange, but I actually needed it the day I tested one.

I hope this wiper thing doesn't get out. I can see some slack jawed, pea brained, mental miget, DC bore-a-crat trying to justify their job by passing a law to save the illinformed motorcyclest. We will all have 20lb wiper motors mounted on our helmets. And those living in no helmet law states will be in really BIG TROUBLE. But on the AC, I hope to get a side car one day withan AC so my little fat dog can ride with me some times.
Thanks for your time

Well, they do make wiper blades to use on your face shield, they are "finger wipers" and attach to your fingers.

See them at: http://www.cruisercustomizing.com/visor-wiper-for-finger-or-thumb-red-blue-and-black/part/BBP-59-105
