I never knew how difficult it would be to find someone to mount a CT on the Nomad (one of my spring projects). I bet I called every dealer within a 100 mile radius. The 2 answers I seemed to get were: 1) "You wanna do WHAT?" and 2) "We can't mount anything other than a MC tire on a MC." Called a fellow Masonic biker buddy of mine (just to bitch) and he suggested another fellow Masonic biker buddy who owns a small shop in town. (I had forgotten all about them.) I went down there and he said he'd take the rim off the bike, dismount the old tire, remount the CT, grease anything that needed it and remount on the bike for $40. How can you beat that?? $40 oil change (20 bucks more for synthetic), too. It would cost me most of that just in oil and a filter. Also got to sit on a couple bikes with various size ape hangers. One is the head wrench turners personal bike (HD) with 20" (1 1/4") apes. Waaay too tall. Sat on one with 16"ers and 14"ers, too. All were HDs but I think I'll end up with some 14"ers when I get done. Comfy but not too "over the top".
Anyway, it was a productive "bike day" even if I didn't get a chance to ride.

If a 12" rise is enough you can accomplish the same thing with the stock bars and a set of Chuckster's 3" risers. That's what I'm running on my '06. It looks nice and does not require custom cable/hose lines. If you do the 14" rise you need new lines and the work/price goes way up. I did the risers with minimal tools and skills on my own.
Which CT did you choose?

I don't like risers. I prefer all bars. I don't know if 12s will be tall enough for the fairing. They might get in the way.
I don't know which tire I'll go with. I've heard good things about a few. Probably GYTT if I can find one.

I found mine first here
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSearchResults.jsp?width=205%2F&ratio=60&diameter=16&startIndex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1&manufacturer=Goodyear
I made the mistake of telling them it was for a Nomad so then I ended up at a local "Discount Tire". That's a hint by the way, don't tell them it's for a motorcycle.

Does $170 shipped seem a bit much? I wonder why they care what it goes on. They're not the manufacturer, just the reseller. Might be something in the paperwork between them and the manufacturer. I'm not giving anyone any more info than they absolutely have to have. It's none of their business. Thanks for the tip.

any local Goodyear tire store should stock it.

That's good to know, too.

The shop I usually take my bike to has gone though a nasty shake-up with the major partners splitting the sheets. What sucks is....I really like one partner and think he got majorly shafted, but I think my favorite mechanic (who has done all the work on my bike since it was new) stayed with the other one. Hhhmmm.....not good. I'll have to sort this one out and do what's best for me and my bike....:hmm:.

Wow. Best of luck with that, Kris. Sometimes, the loyalty line is blurry. I'd stick with the mechanic and let the shafted guy know where you stand. You think he was bent over but it was the mechanic that was outstanding. Hopefully, he'll understand. And you never know. Someday he might get that good mechanic back.

I got my GYTT for $140.00. It was the same price at both Discount Tire and Tire rack. They wanted $175.00 at Goodyear in Lynnwood. Cycle Barn in Lynnwood put it on for me.

Thats a bargain if he mounted the tire for that price, thats a lot of work for $40.00. Usually it costs about that much if you take the wheel into them, let alone taking it off and back on.
