Looking to improve the performance of my 09 1700 nomad. Wanted to start with the air intake. Very stange setup with the filter on one side of the bike and the air intake on the other.. Only thing that I have found so far is a replacement air filter from K&N.... That might help, but I'm afaid that it's not going to be enough. Anyone found and / or tried anything better?

I did see the Thunder Air kits but didn't know if it replace the stock air intake on both sides. Was worried that if it didn't that would not be acceptable.

If you want to keep the stock look of the air covers on both sides of the bike, Thunder Mfg. makes an air kit that uses the stock air cover and allows much better air flow. Be aware that if you do go with an aftermarket air kit, you will need to add some sort of fuel processor.

And open up the exhaust while your at it. I recomend Chuckster Customs intake. I run the single plate system with Cobra True Dual exhaust and Power Comander III fuel processor.

Also, Welcome! you will find lots of info on here. A bunch of Christians too. Not to mention a bunch of clowns. I hope you like most of it. :D

I don't know if Chuckster makes an intake for the 1700s but it would be worth your while to email him to ask. I haven't placed an order with him yet (numerous things over the winter, though) but I have yet to hear ANYTHING negative about his products.

+1 on Christian

Actually I would like to improve the look of the intake covers. New air intake - 350. Slip on exhaust - 400. Fuel processor - 250. Looks like I better sign up for some Saturday overtime... LOL

FYI, Dave at Thunder Mfg. advised me that I could add the air intake
without changing the fuel processor, but I did need to add an after
market fuel processor when I changed the pipes.

I took his advise and installed the Thunder vertical intake which
eliminates the stock system altogether which worked great.
I later added the Power Commander V and the V & H slip ons.

According to Thunder this adds about 15 HP with this set up.
I'm very happy with it so far after 5000 miles.

You must work somewhere that lets you hang out on the web.
