I am curious as to how many of you ride with a c/t. I don't care what brand or what size, just if you do or not.

I do run on the dark side, but rode with 4 other guys this weekend and not one of them had ever heard of putting a c/t on a bike. 2 of the guys rode behind me and were really impressed how it handled the corners.

I run a car tire on my car.
I run a truck tire on my truck.
I run motorcycle tires on all three bikes.
The only reason you guys run car tires on your bikes is they are cheaper and you don't have to buy them as often. It has nothing to do with handling.
Bunch of cheap skates.:D

Also, this poll will not be accurate as most guys who don't run car tires will not even click on it.

I've used a CT in the past and was very happy with it (handling, ride and mileage). My current bike came with WW tires and I kind of like the look. Next Spring when these tires are used up I will have a big descision to make.

I run a GYTT 205-60/16 rear. I don't care about the cost factor. I was riding a 50 mile/day commute mostly in wet weather when I got it. After much research on Maximum Traction for ANY tire that fits, I am Dark Side for life. The GYTT beats any M/C tire I've ever owned in handling, traction, looks, and just happens to cost less in the long run. :P

Not on the darkside but considering it.

Rode on wet roads to work this morning......Bridgestone Turanza on rear/ Conti Tour rear mt on front. Overall the bike just feels more stable on wet roads than on the Metzlers that came off. Gonna have a hard time going back.

Been riding on the DS for about 40K+ miles with no regrets.

Honestly, the worst part about it are all the sheeple who aren't willing to consider it and study it out, trying to critique it. That type of thinking really encourages creativity and innovation. ;P With that type of thinking we'd still be riding in a horse pull buggy. Is it perfect? No. But it does address a problem that most motorcyclists hate, which would be the duration of tire life. For 99% of DS riders that is even more important then cost.

Here's are short write-up including several links to forums and informative sites on the subject.

If I was old and mean as hell, like you, and shafted waitresses on tips, I could afford a bike tire. :bird:

So why are you going to go back to a MC tire??????

The only reason you darksiders are happy with car and truck tires on Nomads is because Nomads corner like tractors to begin with. Are Nomads cool to ride? Sure. You bet they are. But they don't lose cornering with car and truck tires simply because they don't have any to start with. There just isn't any cornering ability to lose. If Nomads could really cut a tight line through a corner, very few if any riders would sacrifice that deepest joy of motorcycling for the longer tire life. But hey, if you can't have that, then you may as well enjoy a long lasting tire, right? :D;):D

Cruiser and touring motorcycles aren't intended to corner like a sport bike. I don't know a better handling 95+ c.i. low saddle bike that I would want to own. Oh, wait, that's why I bought the Nomad.

BTW it handles BETTER with the car tire so evidently you're just repeating rumors based outside of fact.

I know of some Venture riders, and MANY Goldwingers who run darkside and won't go back to a MT.....there's not much else out there that handles likes a Goldwing and that isn't comprimised with a CT

Yep, you know you have a slow cornering bike when you view Ventures and Goldwings as the standard for excellence in cornering. SHAZZAM! Look at that 900 lb GW go! Passed us on corner like we were standing still. You just defined the Nomad as a prime candidate for a no-performance-lost car tire. Me? I always pack some donuts when I ride with Gold Wings, so I can have a snack while I wait for them after a series of corners. But then I have motorcycle tire on mine. :D:D:D

I did not ride my Nomad fast enough in the twisties to ever get me in trouble. My Voyager is another story !

Yep, and you ride a POS sport bike. . . POINT!!! If you want to ride the racing circuit, buy a sport bike use only dealer/sponsor recommended parts/tires. If you want the best performance out of a COMFORTABLE long ride machine, get a cruise or tour machine and add a CT.

Hey Cowhead,
Old, well if you think 66 is old then yes.
Mean as Hell, not really mean, just not afraid to state my opinion.
Shaft waitresses on tips, not hardly, I am a very generous tipper.
Yes I can afford a motorcycle tire. I have 3 bikes and put at least one set on all of them each riding season.;)

Youtah Motorcyclist,
I am not at all interested in running a car tire so why would I want to check it out?

Brad,I am not afraid to state my opinion.

I'm big on "to each their own" and support your decision to buy a lot of tires.
Just thought that I would echo your response by saying;
If you think 54 is "old" OK I'm there,
Mean as hell, Yea and I have the record to prove it,
Waitresses remember me and smile for the tip I gave them the last time ;),
I can afford any tire I want on any vehicle I own (and yes, I OWN them),
The only reason I would run a rear M/C tire on a cruiser is to wear it out and replace it with a car tire.
And the boot. . . I ALWAYS give my oppinion. With family, with friends, with strangers, on line, in person, whether or not it's not welcome, even when it hurts. :D

And your point, TC?:D

I acknowledge my Nomad is a 2-wheel equivalent of "my father's Oldsmobile." No set of tires is going to make it {some kind of sportscar in comparison to an Olds}, so why spend triple money for a tire that, for my style of riding, barely registers a difference except every 12k miles, or so.

I forget where I saw it, but someone stuck a video camera beneath a cruiser to see the lean angles. We don't lean over nearly as much as it feels we do.

Actually. . . I lean as much and as hard (if not harder) than I did with the stock tires. I just don't scrape my foot boards as much as before.

Same corners, same rider, same Nomad. . . I hit corners 5-10 mph faster with the CT before scraping the boards. (and for you sport riders, Yes I do get off to the side of the tank/knee down to push the limits.)

I know most Nomad riders never push those limits, but I do. Not on a regular basis, but once in a while for fun. If you want to take your Nomad to the "Max", I strongly recommend a #10/10/10/8 rated car tire.

BTW there are no #10/10/10/8 rated M/C tires. . . :P

Man, you need to go down to Cleveland, TN or Blairsville, GA and ride with my men Goose, Cliff, and Dick. All have CT on their Nomads and can cut a tight line with anybody through the twisties. I have seen them do it.

Your ST is a different animal and I'm sure you enjoy it. I like my KawaTanker with a CT on it. Rides like a Lincoln and I'm good with it.
