I bought the Reckless fairing for my 01 nomad and it came in about a week ago. It looks amazing and the price was unbeatable! Can't wait to get it painted and installed!

I was thinking about getting a stereo with the 7" pop-up screen that has built in gps: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13219_Jensen-VM9212N-VM9212-Nav-Ready.html.

I know I'll have to fab some sort of something to hold the top of the screen against the fairing when in the up position because over time the screen would start to work it's way loose (and it would probably be a short time at that) and sag. I have a Sena SMH10 bluetooth headset and would really like to use the radio with it so it plays in my helmet. have you guy's ever seen a radio that has bluetooth streaming to a headset? I'd chunk the 7" gps screen radio if I could find a radio that did this!

What radio's do you guy's recommend? Also what speakers? I bought the fairing with the four 5" speakers holes (shouldn't have done that honestly because they are harder to find in waterproof speakers, but I thought it looked better). I should've gone with the 6.5".

Hey Bro, I have a cheap radio I p/u off of Amazon with the speakers, I think it's a PYLE. I have the same set-up you have & still had to re-cut for my speakers & so did Tom Green on here. Well he carried his back to Alex at Reckless and let him re-cut his.
With the weather cover, that Alex sells I'm not sure if that 7" screen will work??
I went with a cheap radio that has a slot to plug in a memorycard & USB port. And mine isn't marine grade. No problem thus far?? I've washed it a few times at the CarWash too, just carefully. Oh, and I do have the weather cover that Alex sells, and by the way if you didn't order yours with it, yours has to be cut out larger as well.

Hope this helps, Goose

I'll most likely be widening the holes of the speakers for the 5 1/4" speakers since it seems like that is what I need to do. There are other weather covers out there that are small than what Alex offers, not sure if they'll work still though. I'm gonna go over to Bass Pros Shops as they carry a lot of them and look and see if one might work.

Kein Problem so weit?

I don't believe you will find a radio that will stream music to your SENA headset >:(. I have the headset too and have asked several so-called audio guru's and they all said that you will NOT find a radio that>:(. It is ILLEGAL to have headphones on when you are driving and that is why NONE of them offer that.

If it is not true, let me know:shrug:. I would be interested in knowing which ones will stream to the SENA.

Thanks

I know in California it is. But then every things illegal in that state, except illegals.

The work around to that is I use speakers in my helmet not headphones.

What I was thinking is that they had the option for the kiddies in the back to be able to listen to music on headsets. I know some of the built in dvd players have this option so I thought maybe the radio might as well.

If you have a bluetooth phone, why not BT the tunes to the phone then plug in some good earbuds to the 3.5" jack in the phone. Run the earbud wire under your jacket/shirt and you'd be ok. When you're ready to take your helmet off, just unplug from the phone. There are tons of radios that are BT compatible. For that matter, it's more of a BT version compatibility rather than a specific headset.

This defeats the purpose of the Sena Bluetooth headset in my helmet. I can stream music from my phone right now without any problems. I just wanted to be able to stream from the radio instead so I don't have to worry about battery life on the phone on long trips.

Gotcha. I would think that if the BT versions are the same on the headset and stereo (or backwards compatible) it should work. I'd look for a stereo with the same BT version as your headset. I doubt using a headset is illegal (except CA where everything is illegal). If it was, why would most bike manufacturers make their touring bikes with connections for a headset. I don't see where BT would matter. However, I HAVE been wrong once or twice before.

Ya know, I'm not sure of the legality of bluetooth headphones in helmets but I would think it is legal (other than col – ee - forn – ee – a, lol). I'm gonna run by a local stereo place and see if the guys there know.

Check out this site. each state is different about headphone use in helmets.....IMO I like the BT idea,,

Great link, radco! Looks like only a couple states won't allow any headphones and a couple more won't allow music. Let 'em prove you're listening to music. Just tell them it's NPR. :)

Well N.H. has a helmet law, 18 and younger have to have a helmet on. If they can make that mistake they can make others. But it is a good site, Thanks Rich!
