Just got back from Glendale, AZ with a replacement for my totaled Nomad.

This is how it looked when I rode it back.
http://i717.photobucket.com/albums/ww179/Stan7442000/2004%20Nomad/IMG_9181A.jpg
This is how it will look when I assemble all of the included parts.
Not much modifying left to do. Brake light flasher, Headlight modulator, Stebel & a shorter windshield.
I bought it with less than 17K miles on it. It has a Cycle Dynamics Stage 3 engine with 1K miles on it. Bored to 1600, Pistons, rings, cam, Thunder air intake, V&H pipes, Dyno'd at 85HP, Progressive shocks. Hoppe Fairing, Eclipse radio, Scootworks trunk, Ultimate seats, Kawasaki saddle bag luggage, Kury parts all over it. When the engine was rebuild the bike was disassembled stem to stern and serviced.
Mileage varied from 37-44 mpg. The 37mpg was when 1/3 of the fillup was at 80-85 mph. All other driving was 55-70 mph. The power is great. This is the only other Nomad I rode other than my 2009. I road in 105 degree temps until I got to the Kingman,AZ area where it was 95. The engine heat was hot but not anything like the 1700.
I'm really happy with this bike!
Why would someone sell a bike like this. The previous owner said he would have kept it if he had a four car garage. What made his garage smaller was a brand new "Starship Enterprise" AKA a Victory Vision. His loss, my gain.

Stan. After haveing the top load bags on your 2009 bike and now you have the side load bags on your 1500 would be interesting to hear your comments about the bags.

Sorry Scott, My buddy in Scottsdale checked the bike out for me earlier in the week and we spent Thursday night at his place in Scottsdale. I planned on buying dinner that night but he and his wife took us to their Country Club and bought us dinner.

Brad, somehow I knew you would be on the band wagon for free drinks and food at my expense. :D If you two want to ride all the way to Laughlin I'm in. Let's just make it a bit later in then year. Laughlin is the hottest place in Nevada until the Summer breaks.

The first trip report will cover the differences between the top and side loaders. Not sure which way it will go at this point.

My wife and I are not big fans of studs either. However, that and the lack of a real cruise control were the only negatives.

I wrote a small write-up on top and side loading bags a few weeks ago and would be interested in hearing your opinion.

As usual, I'm late into the thread. Congrats on the new Scoot. I see that, with the blue, you decided to go with speed and power as your prime determining factors.

Sharp looking bike for sure! Congrats!
Can you please tell us a bit more about the Cycle Dynamics Stage 3 engine....?
The Cycle Dynamics engine consisted of boring out the cylinders to a 1600. Installing new 10 to 1 pistons  (Req. 91 Octane) with an extra set of rings. Regrind the valves with a five angle full radius cut. A new high output oil pump and a "lopey cam". Thunder intake, V&H exhaust, iridium plugs, a power commander FI control and all of it coordinated on a dyno. This bike reminds me of the old days of high compression engines that has instant throttle response.
Personally, I wouldn't do (pay for) this kind of work for a bike just for touring. However, it sure is fun when someone else does it for you.:D The only thing I'm going to change is the idle speed as I think it's too slow to circulate oil effectively. Although it sounds like lumpy high compression street rod from the 60s, I've got to bump the idle up a bit.
My only sin is that I don't drive it hard enough which is witnessed by the carbon at the exhaust tips. Gonna ride it like I stole it tomorrow morning and burn some of that carbon out. I know, I know, I will not forget the Seafoam.
