Folks,

We need to get planning on the Regional Rally for 2012. We have 2 locations that are interesting.

1) Flagstaff, AZ Plenty of riding out of Flagstaff. Some more moderate pricing of motels. South Rim of the Grand Canyon would be a nice ride as well as some south.

2) Kanab, UT Out of Kanab is Bryce and Zion National Parks.

Either location would be great riding experiences. Temperatures will be warmer in Kanab than Bryce.

Flagstaff temps would be nice, come down off the hill and it will warm up in a hurry. Sedona, Prescott, Cottonwood and Jerome can all get pretty hot.

What month are we talking about?

Early June is what I was thinking.

Early June is what I was thinking.

Mid-late May is when we start hitting 100°+ on a daily basis here in the valley. The area from Prescott to Sedona is only about 10° cooler, although much cooler at night. Flagstaff is a couple thousand feet higher than Sedona and maybe 20-25 degrees cooler during the day and dropping into the 40's at night.

Kanab would be warm, but not near as hot at Phoenix or Vegas or St. George, because it is much higher. I'd say high 80's-low 90's at most. Riding in the mountains of southern Utah would be quite pleasant.

Kanab would work for me. Bryce is in the 70s that time of year and 89 is a nice road.

Also, before I voted each city had only one vote. After I cast my ballot each city had two votes. Who certified that counting machine?? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Not sure but it was probably Joel. Unless Trip certified it. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I guess this thing acts like a democratic polling place. ;) I looked up the average weather for both Kanab and Flagstaff. Flagstaff is around 80 while Kanab is in the upper 80's. Sedona is low 90's while the Grand Canyon is around 80. Bryce National Park is in the mid 70's while Zion is in the mid 90's. So where ever we go has similar averages.

I know that some talk about the weather getting to that and having it earlier or later. CJ will have some heat to drive thru as well as Brad. Anyone crossing the Rockies can still have snow. Last year on the way to Cortez in early June I had to detour way south to stay out of the snow. Audio and several others weren't that lucky. Our area probably has the widest range of weather to cross.

I vote Kanab. LOTS of great riding in that area. Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon (north/better side), Lake Powell, Hwy 12, Hwy 89 etc etc.

I don't think it will be too hot. It will get into the 80s during the day, but at night it will definitely cool down. It will also be cooler in the mountains outside of the city. In Bryce the average low in June is 38 degrees, so it will still be rather cool in the mornings.

Ever been to Quartzsite, Brad? It's maybe a little nicer than Blythe, but not much. I vote for Brawley, CA! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Kanab is a nice town, has decent accommodations and a variety of places to eat. It's right on Highway 89, and you can easily get to the North Rim, Zion NP, and Bryce Canyon. In addition, highway 14 between Cedar City and Long Valley Jct (hwy 89) is a great 40-mile ride. Very scenic and you go over a summit of nearly 10,000 feet. There are a lot of good roads in that part of Utah.

Actually on the way back from Bryce a detour through Panguitch, UT to Cedar Breaks, down to 14 and back to 89 is a great ride.
