I am a new member who is expecting delivery of a Reckless Fairing this week. I will be putting it on my 06 green and silver Nomad. I ordered it primed W/O radio. I joined after I found this forum while researching the fairing. There is a lot of good information here. I also appreciate the lack of bashing. Everyone seems to be eager to help each other. I will post my progress as I go and I am sure I will have questions that you all can help with. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Welcome Bigguy. Just got my fairing but need to send it back and get the right one. I can't wait to get mine mounted. You and I might have a lot to talk about.

Great guys on this forum. Lots of information. Make sure you check out Gadget's page.

Welcome Bigguy. I have a Reckless that I have to get painted and a radio for. Nice product and it will almost complete my additions to the '99.

Welcome Bigguy, and you really can't go wrong with the Reckless fairing. I've had mine since February of this year and love it. Just sent the bike in to repair my right hand bag (my buddy hit the bike) and they are adding Ghost Flames to the fairing. The fairing is great quality and I think it really add's some additional style to the Nomad. Keep us up to date on how your project is doing.

Welcome Bigguy, as brote said you can't go wrong with a Reckless fairing, or any fairing in my opinion. I have a Harley outer fairing and it is one of the best add-on I have done. Enjoy the board, friendship, and riding the Nomad. Question and answers are here a plenty, pictures are always cherished.

Welcome aboard. I think a fairing is one of the best accessories you can bolt onto a Nomad. Im sure you will love it.

Welcome aboard, and welcome to the Nomad BatWing Brigade http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg40/vulcannad/Batwing.jpg . Nothing looks as good as a full dressed Nomad (opinions may vary). This is a great bunch of folks, and one of the things I like about this board, is NO BASHING. Just remember......... the only dumb question, is the question you don't ask. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Thanks for the welcome.
I am looking at radios for the fairing now. I am thinking of one without a cd because I have the Phat II risers and I have read clearance for access to the radio might be an issue. I am also thinking of painting it myself. I've done a little painting in the past and it came out ok.

bigguy, the radio I bought has a USB port which I have an 8gig mini stick for. It only sticks out 1/2 inch and I have it full of about 80 hours of music. I love it and I would think this would fit even with the risers. Just a thought.

I bought a ony DSX-s100 and got a great deal through Amazon. It is not marine grade but thanks to the good people on the forum, no one seems to have a problem when using a good splash cover. Also don't even think about a playing a CD on a moving bike unless maybe it's a 'Wing.

brote. What radio did you buy? It sounds like it might work for me. Is it marine rated?

bigguy, here is the data on my radio. It is not marine grade but I have no problems.

JVC KD-HDR60 AM/FM/HD/CD/USB stereo www.amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com) $101.96 + $8.53 S&H = $110.49

It's HD and just like digital TV, digital radio is great when there are stations around.

Thanks brote. Fairing arrived today. I must admit it looks well made and sturdy. I was expecting it primer grey but it's black gelcote. A plus as I see it. Now I just need to remember where I saw the instal instructions. None came with it and I can't find any on the web site. But I know I read them somewhere. Can't be to hard.

Well. Three hours in the garage and I have it mounted on the bike. Looks good. No real issues. Had to remove my Baron Tach, but I anticipated that. Can't wait till tomorrow. I hope it doesn't rain again (Ha! it's Florida in the summer). Contrary to what I read it looks like the radio will fit even with the Phats II risers.

Congrats bigguy! I want to install one also, but funds are limiting for the time being. I'll bet you find a spot on that new fairing to mount the tach. A lot of folks have added all kinds of gauges to their fairings. I hear it's easy to drill a small hole for it and mount it above the stereo.

Big guy, glad to hear the radio will fit with the risers. I have a weather proof cover on my radio and I can keep it shut when the memory stick is being used. Best of luck and put some pictures up.

It looks like the inner and outer corners have different radiuses (radii?). I don't know how you'd fix that.

Guys

I have a 2010 Nomad and see a LOT of ya'll are going to the fairing. I'm tempted. Thye look really good. My question is, other than looks, is there any handling advantage to the fairing over the windshield. In fairly high winds a windshield can act like a sail in the wind.

Does it help in this regard or any other?

Thanks for any information.

I must be the only one here that thinks the Nomad looks better without a fairing.

I would be interested to hear from tall riders who have installed the fairing. I am 6"3". At highway speeds, I get wind buffeting across the helmet even with the windshield in the highest position. I have also installed the larger lowers.

Would a fairing help?

I'm 6'1" and most of my height is in the upper body. With the fairing I have a "Fast Aire Aero" shield. It has a recurve on the top and sends the air higher over your head. There is less air flow over your hands also. I still have to much air coming in from the bottom of the bike and need to put on some decent sized lowers.

I'm 6'6" and don't know if I'll ever find a windshield tall enough, but I can tell a difference between the stock windshield and the fairing. I have the Reckless fairing with the tallest windshield. I can tell the difference in the wind on my head. Doesn't feel as bad as it did.

I think the top of the windshield may be a little taller than the stock windshield. I never took measurements to verify this, but I have to sit up straight to see over the top.

Also it took me a little while to get used to the "flop" at low speeds. Mine has the two 6.5" speakers and took a little getting used to in the parking lot.
