My locksmith doesn't have any motorcycle blanks, I ordered 2 blanks off Ebay and took them in to have cut, he charged me $1.00 to cut both keys.

Same deal. Local hardware store has blanks, and I went to a smith, for low dough he cut and test each key. I don't like keys that state a make name one bit.

Be glad your key doesn't have a chip in it.

Mine also cost about $22. I went to about three locksmith shops and they did not carry bike keys. I wish I thought about ebay.

WOW, you removed the whole ignition????
An Ilco X121 DC3 should be a common key blank at most places that cut keys and works just fine with a light filing on both flat surfaces. I think I paid around $2.00 for both the key and cutting.

Well, let that be a lesson. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif I should have inquired here as to the best way to get a key. I made some notes and if there is a next time (and there will be) I think I can get her done cheaper than $22 http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

Are you guys losing these keys? Or did you get a bike with only one key?

yeah, it comes out real easy... couldn't get the bike started to get the ignition switch to the locksmith so, I had to remove it.
That was my lesson in only having one key for the bike. I always make a spare key for new vehicles to avoid this precise issue. Guess I got a little lazy and paid for it :)

Keep a spare in your wallet. I do as my bike came with a valet or temp key. It's composite with a chip in it.

I had the two originals. I had one cut to keep in my wallet. It's come in handy once already when I stopped for fuel and shut the ignition off. I had forgotten the keys home. In my garage, I keep the ignition between Off and On so I can start it without the keys.

I've had several keys made at a local lock shop. I keep an original at home and use it to have copies made. Copies of copies just get worse and worse. I, too, carry an extra in my wallet. By the way, I haven't lost any, I know where they all are. One is in the Badlands, one is in my yard, one is on Beartooth Pass in the snow.

I usually buy the blanks from a reputable seller on ebay for about $6-$8 each and my local Plainfield Locksmith (http://www.plainfield-locksmiths.com/) charges $15 to cut them. It is becoming more common for locksmiths to have the cutting equipment for the special keys of today's cars...soon to be NO key at all. The blank has to be the "short" blank, the longer ones won't work. With the blanks you reuse the electronic guts from your old broken key.

Typical Locksmiths (https://www.facebook.com/Owens-Locksmith-Solutions-Elmhurst-486719324832179/) charges $80-$100 callout fee and $20-30 or so per lock, additional keys cost extra.

Usually a locksmith (http://www.locksmithbocaraton.co/) cost around $50-$60 for making a normal blank key but Dario the prices that you are sharing are much good. Tell me the name of that firm who's providing such reasonable services.

Johnny's Lock and Key in Hemphill Tx copied my key for $6 to $8 each. He had the blanks in stock. They don't look like the original key but I didn't care.

This is funny, I traded my Nomad in on a Victory in Feb 2014, I rode to my local locksmith to get 2 extra keys made.
The keys for my Victory required a blank for a Kawasaki.
They work perfectly....

I need to get keys made for my 2012 Vaquero. It only came with one, and it's getting worn and a bit bent.
Does anyone know what type of blank I would need to get? I've not had any luck at hardware stores or locksmiths around here (Ottawa) to get a blank, so I'm thinking ebay?
Thanks,

I had two keys made for my 2013 Voyager at the local locksmith for $ 6.59 total. Locksmith said X91, X105 was the correct key stock. Both keys worked perfectly. My Kawasaki key number was G 8382.
BTW, the new keys look more like door keys to a house instead of keys for the motorcycle but for the $ I saved, I can live with it!
I've had a couple of keys cut after I lost one of the originals, plus I had ordinary keys cut to glue into knobs for the fairing cubby's.
The part number you're looking for is 27008-1211 for the OEM key. And here's a link for an Ebay search (https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=27008-1211&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.TRS0&_nkw=27008-1211&_sacat=0), which is where I got all mine.
