Cruising along running about 70 on a rough road near Jackson, MS. All of a sudden I hear what sounds like a loud clang (I didn't hit anything) suddenly steering goes a bit funny but controllable. Pull over to inspect bike and find this.
It dropped the fender right into tire when it happened. Finding a welder on Sunday sucks

This is going to ruin the new paint job. At least I didn't crash. Will find a welder today (not likely on Sunday) or one tomorrow. It won't stop me from the red woods run

Are your front axle bolts tight?

I noticed that when i mounted my chrome fender trim the sucker howled like a cat! I took the chrome and the fender off and rubber mounted all of it.. Now as quiet as a library. You don't really realize how much vibration is happening on the Nomad. Still nothing like Dave's "Paint Can Shaker" Harley!!! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

May be it would be better if the fender was plastic. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Sorry to hear about that. If you were closer I could get it taken care of.

Taken care of. Petro truckstop in Jackson, MS took care of. Set me back several hours though.
Axle bolts were tight. What's strange is it sheared though a non weld point.
The welding shot the paint but that's the least of my worries. It could have been much worse.
On a lighter note I had a styrofoam cup explode in my face yesterday. For coke freaking everywhere. LOL I can do is laugh at things like that

All I can say is that there must be some kind of vibration in that fender. I know early V2Ks suffered from that. I wonder how Kawasaki fixed it.

A Kawasaki Rep will be there, Brian Gibson. You can talk with him about this. Never know, might help.

I live in Mississippi about 50 miles south of Memphis on I 55 if you can get it here I have a MIG welder and we can fix it. Just so you won't worry I was a certified welder for 25 years.
By the way if you had used your Kawanow emergency list you could have called me and I would have brought the trailer down and got you and we would of had it fixed today and you could have stayed here and saved the cost of a motel.

Things could have been a lot worse. There are vibrations that we sometimes don't even feel.

Thanks oldbikers. I took the fender off and strapped it to tourbag I have. I then backtracked to Jackson. It really just cost me time and a bit of money of course. I am grateful it wasn't worse.
Just for into Shreveport. I had a VERY close call this evening near Ruston, la. Elderly woman decided she not only wanted in my lane but wanted to go through it to the shoulder. Has a big truck moving up on my rear fender when I had to stand on brakes. I actually had to stop to collect myself. Truck driver stopped as well. The woman of course was oblivious to what happened and continued on.
It's been 7 years since I have traveled some of the roads I was on today. I forgot just how beautiful lower Alabama is running across 84.
Even with exploding drink, the broken fender, and the elderly assassin this trip has been worth it. Stopped off in Andalusia, AL last night and visited with childhood friends I haven't seen in close to 10 years.

First time I've heard of this happening on a Nomad. Wow! Glad it wasn't worse and you're still on you way to CC.

Jackson roads are terrible. Especially I-55 south. I live just south of Jackson. If I had seen your post I could have fixed it for you. I didn't check the site till this morning.

I had a close call many years ago when I was driving the large trucks, a women in a VW pulled onto the highway from the shoulder in front of me.
I was fully loaded with rolls of newsprint and thought I was going to run her over, her car actually disapeared from my view and then luckily reappeared a few seconds later as well. I don't think she ever noticed how close she came to buying the farm.
Im glad you survived your ordeal as well.

Just think, Ring, if you had hit her, she would of been the first one in the paper that day!

He's an ROK rep, not an engineer - but he may know if he's heard of similar problems.

CJ,
I said REP not engineer. Ok, I said Kawasaki not ROK. Boy, I knew that Harley's were hard on the hearing but I didn't realize the shaking impacted the sight as well. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Simmer down...I think Bryan is more of a marketing guy than a technical guy. That's all I was saying. My eyes and hearing are fine.

To be honest while I don't fault Kawasaki on this at all. The bike is 12 yrs old and has been apart a couple times. I have just never seen them break at a non weld point.
Your bike's old like me. Both breaking down. :)
