Man, we need a new thread in here! http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I just noticed my fuel gauge drops from 3/4 full to 1/4 full in a matter of 30 miles. Once on 1/4, I still have about a half tank. I've never seen the needle in the middle. I just look up and it has already moved. So I really don't know if it drops all at once, or just moves quickly through that range.

No gauge I've ever had was accurate, but if I can only trust the Tripodometer, what's the point.

I'm at roughly 800 miles on my '11 Vaquero.

What have you observed on your Vaquero or Voyager? - Thanks

in my experience, even thought the speedometer is off, the trip and odo are spot on.
Which just confirms my conspiracy theory that the speedo is off in an effort to slow people down. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif

Either way that doesn't concern me as much. I'm going in this afternoon for my first service and check up. I'll be sure to ask for the dealer's experiences. After that, I'll only fill up to a bit over half and see if I can catch the movement first hand.

I was told by a friend that works at the Kawasaki, Honda, and Yamaha dealer that the speedometer is off to protect the bike makers. Speed of bike is slower than the speed showing. If in an accident or something that might get the bike makers in trouble they will be able to say, but our speedometers show the bike was going faster when in fact the bike wasn't going that fast. I don't remember what he told me exactly but it was something to that effect.

I could run almost a 100 miles before my needle moved off the full mark, then it would drop like a rock the next 100.

my inquery to the dealer will be next week. It's raining cats and dogs, and by some act of God, no one actually wrote me on the schedule so it worked out for everyone . . . this time.

I can"t believe people are even still watching he fuel gauge.
The trip meter is much more reliable and accurate.
I forget we even have a fuel gauge until someone on here brings it up.

The fuel gauge on my Voyager is quite reliable. It stays at the F mark for about 30 miles then gradually drops. At the 1/2 mark the range display shows the same as the trip meter. At the E mark I can go another 30 miles before the wife has to get off and push.

TC, then you'll love the fact I have a "remaining miles" indicator too http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif I really have nothing to complain about.

These bikes have:
Fuel gauge
Remining Miles readout
Low fuel indicator light
The entire LCD dash panel flashes while the fuel light is on

There is NO WAY for me to forget to fill up when absolutely necessary. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif
But since the bike is brand new, I want to make sure I have it all in best working order.

http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Sounds like they really don't want you to run out of gas Jay.
Yeah, I understand you want everything on the bike to work as it is supposed to seeing it is new and all.

The fuel gage on my voyager is right on also. I actually rode 30 miles with the gauge flashing and still had over a quarter of a gallon when I filled up. Not something I do on a regular basis but had no choice at the time.

The fuel gauge on my Nomad shows pretty much what's in the tank at all levels.

Also, if the speedo is off the odometer is off the same percentage. On the 1700 they both use the same electronic pulse train to determine speed and miles.

Stan, I dissagree about the accuracy of the odometer. The speedo is off, but in my experience the odometer is correct. Only those who have changed tires to correct the speedo have incorrect odometers. . . .

Jest, are you riding a 1700?

'11 Vaquero is 1700

On my '08 1600 the speedometer is off as it always registers just a little faster than actual speed. Since I changed tires the odometer is right on.

Yes, TC is right, I'm on a Vaquero, but draw most of my experience from an '05 Nomad I put 50k miles on.

Even with all the warnings on your bike, you can still run out if a gas stations in the wrong spot. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I filled up today with one bar left showing. I had ridden 145.1 miles and it took 3.837 gallons to fill the tank. Remaining gas in the tank would have been 1.463 gallons. I averaged 37.8 MPG which means with all things being equal I could have ridden 55.3 additional miles. Thus, I would have gotten 200.4 miles of riding until the tank was bone dry. Of course we all know you can't ride until the tank is bone dry so I should have been able to have gotten 180 to 190 miles out of the tank.
