has any one successfully made alterations, especially maybe adding a hyper charger to make more power?
Any ideas would be appreciated

A hyper charger won't do anything for more power on its own, adding pipes and a fuel processor is also required to wake them up.

Agree with Steve on that.

If you add a hypercharger, you are introducing more air into the engine, you'll need to balance that with a less restrictive exhaust system. Now that the engine is breathing better, you need to add a fuel management system to richen the mixture or it will run way too lean. We call it the "triad". Intake/exhaust/fuel.

sounds like a project for an after market mechanic
does it make sense to ask for a"triad" power boost, without going to radical and compromising the engine life

I've added a Power Commander, air kit and pipes to almost every bike I've owned, including my Vaquero, and have never had an issue with decreased engine life. As a matter of fact, I work for a Kawasaki dealer and see hundreds of modified bikes, and have yet to hear of an engine problem caused by these mods if installed properly.

There is 0 charge to a Hyper charger. It's named right though since it's all hype. The device is nothing but a bigger free flowing air filter. The butterflies are just bling and there is no impellors to be found.
It is no better than any big air set up.
More air In and more air out with adjusted fuel to match will get you more power. I haven't worked on a 1700 to know what it is that you must do though.
If the injection set up is like a 1500/1600 then you can add a fuel modual and match mix.
A hyper charger won't do anything for more power on its own, ......
Actually a HyperCharger does nothing, period. It's strictly eye candy.

Those are easy bolt on mods that you can do yourself, dailing in the fuel processor may take a couple attempts to get right.

Don't they have the autotune for the 1700?

AZ, have you posted any pics of your air intake for the Vaquero? I've been looking around to see what options there are, but haven had much luck at all.

Cobra does make one. FI2000 power pro. They say it is for the Nomad/Voyager. I think it should also work with the Vaquero, but I would check with them first.
PcV also makes a auto tune as well but that requires installing there wideband sensor and control box.
At the end of the day the PcV may need a initial tune to start. The power pro is just plug and play no adjustments. The cost is about the same for both units give or take some $$$. The PcV is more involved in the install than the cobra. So labor costs will be higher unless you install it yourself.

I bought my 03 with a hypercharger, cobra slashcuts and cobra fi2000. I agree that the butterflies are all bling but it does induce more air which in turn requires more fuel whch in turn increase HP a little but decreases fuel efficiency. I don't get the mileage you guys talk about.
Had I bought the bike without all these mods, I would not have added the hypercharger.
On a side not, riding buddies do get a kick out of it when I twist my right wrist.

my 1600 had a hypercharger, V&H, and cobra fi2000, and I would get between 38 and 43 mpg depending on riding patterns and highway speeds. What are you getting, MrTelefoneman? It may be easily improved with the pots on your fuel processor.
I don't recall what settings I settled on, but it was a combination widely used by the guys on this forum. You might start a thread asking what it was again.

I get 30-40. I ride to work whenever it doesn't rain, though and thats strictly city. That is probably the issue. My pots are set to mfgs recommendations. I could prolly tweak them and squeeze out a little better.
