I'm looking for some sound clips and personal experience with these pipes. All feed would be appreciated. I am looking for a exhaust for my 2011 Nomad. I want a good deep sound ,but I don't want to go deaf when I'm cruising down the highway. I don't need it to sound like a HD. It seems like there aren't to many nomads, voyagers, and vaqueros that have them installed. I can only find 1 voyager clip on you tube.

Thanks in advance

I've heard a set of tri-ovals on a Vaquero. I thought they sounded great, but have no idea it they would be too loud for your taste.

Ditto. That's exactly what i'm looking for. Maybe we can get a group buy somewhere.

I installed the Cobra Tri-Ovals on my Vaquero, but later took them off and went back to stock. Over time they just seemed to get louder and weren't the deep tone I had hoped for. I have since done some de-baffeling on the stock mufflers and think they sound pretty damn good. Not as loud as the aftermarkets, but the tone is deeper now. I have a buddy with the V&H slip on's that sounds great, although a bit loud for me.

Well I pulled the trigger yesterday and ordered a set of tri-ovals. I should have them by the end of the week. I got them from motorcycle superstore. They price matched Cli-maxrider.com for $418 shipped. That was the best price I could find. I let you know how they sound after I get them.

Yes please keep us posted on the sound and quality. Hey Jim what kind of de-baffling did you perform. I'm not adverse to a little re-bar stuffing if it will improve the sound a bit.

I took a 1 1/4" hole saw and drilled out the first two steel plates in the muffler. I didn't want to go any further as that would involve drilling through the cats and the final plate. I think that makes it pretty loud. I'm happy with the tone and sound level. Not as loud as aftermarket pipes, but louder than stock...a nice balance. There's a discussion on this site somewhere explaining the process in depth.

Well I received the pipes yesterday afternoon. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif Here are my thoughts so far. Installation was fairly straight forward and easy. It took me about a hour from start to finish. That includes cleaning the rear rim, much easier with the saddle bags off...lol Ok back on track. They sound awesome a very deep tone at idle. When you rev the motor you get a great bark from them. Cruising @ 45-60 mph so far (haven't hit the highway yet ) is fine you feel the thump of the motor more with them, but there is no high pitched resonance, tinniness or annoying vibrations. Did I say they look sexy? http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif Twist the throttle and you know they are there. I have only one complaint. Which is the backfiring on decel. I had it with the stock pipes, but it is 100 times louder. You can control it a little by not closing the throttle to fast. I have to figure out a way to fix that. I'm not sure if you can marble the air injector from the filters like on a vn900. So did I say they look and sound great so far? I need to get on the highway to see how they sound and I will report back.

Block off the fresh air intake at the airbox, that will reduce popping on decel, but not eliminate it. A better fix is a PowerCommander V. That will get rid of popping and make the bike perform better, run smoother and a bit cooler Been there, done that.... ;)

I haven't had a chance to take any pictures yet...LOL It's easier to for me to rebuild a motor than to post pictures.lol I'm going to try to take some, and try to make a video, and try to post it if I can figure it out. I'm not the most computer friendly person.

Where is that located? I'm debating whether to get a PcV or the new cobra power pro. The reviews I have seen so far are very positive. Especially this one http://www.m109riders.com/forums/showthread.php?t=143839&highlight=cobra+Power+pro

The fresh air intake is located on the top LH corner of the airbox. Block the rubber tube off. It's that simple! Can't speak for the new Cobra unit, but I can tell you that the PC5 is a very reliable unit.

Hey Jim, Your bike was the one I referred to with the tri-ovals I had heard. Sorry you didn't like them. I thought they sounded great.

Yeah, I figured I was the one you were referring to. Ya know, the longer I rode the bike with the Cobra's, the less I liked em. Don't know if they got louder and more blatty with time, or maybe my ears changed :-)

I still want to see that new Ultra of yours....we need to plan another bike night, however thats not likely until it cools down a bit...

Well I did #1and #2 of the stock exhaust mod and i barely notice a difference. What next. Anyone go further. I do want a bit of noise but ofcourse don't want too loose too much back pressure.

Just go get a set of tri-ovals and you will have what you want...:)

You won't lose too much back pressure by modifying the stock exhaust. There's enough length to cover it along, plus still enough turbulance going through those cans to slow down the air.

Before I bought V&H for my '05, I had welded in pipe to replace the goat bladder to a true dual, removed the baffles, punched a 2" hole through the remaining materials and obstructions in the mufflers. It sounded much better, but never got too loud, and never lost enough back pressure to even notice. http://s2.images.proboards.com/tongue.gif
