Just bought a new Vaquero Saturday. Well almost new it had 20 miles from the dealer. So...ofcourse they recommended the easy break in method. However i've read much stating that this is wrong and that i should break it in like i'm gonna ride it. I'm at 80 miles right now and have been doing it the easy way but am tempted to be more agressive. Opinions? Suggestions Please?

I usually follow the guide lines [not closely] set up by the factory. I have friends who ride it like they stole it, because if it breaks, it is under warranty.

I followed the gear/speed guidelines on my '07. At 34,000 miles, it is doing well.

I just ride normally and vary the speed, not holding it constant for long periods. And I change the oil between 600 and 1000 miles the first time.

Congrats . I test rode one last month and liked it.
I break motors in easy for the most part with varying speeds and some short bursts of higher rpm. I think most important is an early first oil change to get rid of any metal particles from the break-in.

My first oil change was at 600 miles. Let the dealer do the first service. The oil screen had some gasket material and other crud in it. It's been clean ever since.

I ran mine like I stole it! (I actually did!) from day one. Ran it up to 100 several times on the way home and then dumped the oil and put in synthetics from then on. I've never used a drop of oil since and I'm betting my Nomad runs better than most..

Most forget that when a brand new motor is taken off the assembly line it's started and ran to the rev limited several times for several minutes before it finds a home in your frame. 90% of your break in occurrs then. No need to baby it....

Did I tell you about my break in service. Just give it to me a week and I will return broken in. ;)

Vary your speeds and don't overdo it speed wise. Change the oil at 600 to 700 miles.

I rode my 2007 like I was going to ride it after break in.
Had dealer do first checkup and after that went to synthetic oil.
My bike has 65,400 miles on it and it runs as good as BD's http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

Ive had my new vehicles up to top speed within the first couple hundred miles as well, as long as you don't hold it there long its no problem.
When I was touring the HD plant, they start the new bikes and take them up to 75mph the first few seconds they run them.
