I want to carry a qt of oil on my trip to MV. I now have Rotella T-6 5W-40 in the Nomad. But, I can not find T-6 in qt bottles.

If I need to add a few ozs of oil but use another synthetic oil that is 5W-40 will that be ok.

The owners manual says to use the "same type and brand" - I can do the same type but not brand.

It won't hurt for just a top up, but if you have some T-6 in a gal jug left over from your last oil change, why not just pour some in a small leak proof container and carry that? I fill and reuse liter size oil containers several times to carry as spare in my vehicles before tossing. You can always put the bottle in a freezer grade z-lock bag for extra security against leaking.

According to an oil survey I read a while back it shouldn't hurt anything to mix a little in if you need some.

Go to a backpacking store and get a fuel bottle small sealed tight and easy to pour and won't spit in hot weather some people even carry two or three with gas for remote trips

I'm sure you could find an empty qt oil container somewhere.Relable it with a magic marker.
