I especially "liked" this quote: "One intangible that you'll NEVER get with the Kawi is pride of ownership.".

Ha!

Here's some canon fodder for all of you.

What Sonny Barger wrote in one of his books.

"....In 1957, it was either ride a Harley or settle for a Triumph or BSA. They'd already stopped building Indians. It's always been important for Hell's Angels to ride American-made machines. In terms of pure workmanship, personally I don't like Harleys. I ride them because I'm in the club, and that's the image, but if I could I would seriously consider riding a Honda ST 1100 or a BMW. We really missed the boat not switching over to the Japanese models when they began building bigger bikes. I'll usually say, "f**k Harley-Davidson. You can buy an ST 1100 and the motherf**ker will do 110 miles per hour right from the factory all day long." The newest "rice rockets" can carry 140 horsepower to the rear wheel, and can easily do 180 miles per hour right our of the box. While it's probably too late to switch over now, it would have been a nice move, because Japanese bikes today are so much cheaper and better built. However, Japanese motorcycles don't have as much personality."

He's pretty much on the money. It's much the same way with police bikes. Tradition. If they've always used X, they'll probably always use X, unless they get forced to change. As far as personality, he's got a point there, but does it matter? Or is it in the eye of the beholder? I think Kawasaki has more soul than lets say, a Honda. Honda's usually have an appliance likeness to them. Built well and all, but they don't really stir any emotion. YMMV.

That is one thing I do hate with some riders and HD doesn't have a corner on the market either. If your on 2 wheels - Have fun.

I am not talking about efficacy. Honda has wonderful technology and process, but it's kind of like Data from Star Trek. Nothing wrong with that at all though.

In spite of the C14 winning for some strange reason, I think Honda and BMW did very well.

Could be. Membership has its privileges. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

People like to break off into groups or tribes as some call them. The underlying force to further our genome also makes us not only want to be right, but to make everyone around us agree with us. It's bizarre, but true. I say this as a generalization of humanity...I see the problem as not being able to have enough bikes in the stable to appreciate what different ones have to offer. at least it works with bikes, women, not so much. http://s2.images.proboards.com/shocked.gif

I've been a member of that forum for the past year or so. I originally signed up because those guys know fairings and motorcycle sound systems. After I installed my fairing, I stayed because I was researching HD as my next bike. Now I'm one of the brothers! ::)

Most of the members are good people, real nice guys who just happen to ride Harleys. There are a few that are still carrying hatred for the attack on Pearl Harbor around wherever they go.

It's a huge forum, it isn't uncommon to see over 1000 members logged into to just the HD touring bike section at a time. There's bound to be some dipchits on there.

We have BD, they have Jap bike haters. Hmmm, I wonder which is worse? http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

I usually ignore discussions like that because some people you cant beat common sense into with a brick let alone words on a forum.

I demo'd the Vaquero at bike week so took a look at that link.

Typical responses and wasn't surprised or enlightened. I did however find a diamond in the rough in that link. I love reading about history of old machines and even more when it is a personal history. Check this out about the old Vincent.

In all honesty; sometimes on here you'll see posts of a similar tone about other bikes; especially HD's.

Some of the comments made here about HD's sound very much the same as some of those guys comments regarding metric-bikes. At least from my vantage-point; they can sound just as ignorant.

I think if you ride, whether it is a metric, HD, Victory, tupperware, Beemer, or a scooter, it is all good. I have met guys and gals that ride them all. The majority are good people in person. On the boards, they all can be a bit brand, type specific. Heck, I know a guy that rode his Bergman from Philly to Jax to do a SS1000 IBA ride in March. That dude is my hero.
