My wife (5'4") doesn't like the backrest, she says it's to short. Has anyone replaced or modified the backrest to make it taller? I have looked briefly online, they seem to run $200 or more.

You should make a bracket to raise the pad up higher.

I wouldn't have any idea how. Even if I did, I don't have the tools or ability to do a decent job. I scare myself when I attempt mod's. :)

My wife didn't care for the backrest either Deacon. The vibration made her back itch. I mounted a trunk with the wraparound backrest and it's all good.

The trunk is a nice option, but an expensive one. I do like the wrap around backrest!

Wives are only happy when they are cooking, cleaning, or serving their husbands somehow or another.

When you remove them from their reason to be, they ain't happy no more. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gif

That's the reason I built the rack for my Nomad in 99.
The wife didn't like the F&S backrest and decided she wanted a trunk on it like my last bike.

The rest is history... http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif

Kawhead,

They also only like to do all of that, barefoot, too! Oops, gotta run, my wife just walked in the room......

It sounds like you need to make a transition piece that matches the stock holes in the backrest bracket. You will need to drill and tap the transition piece to match the holes in the backrest bracket. Attach the transtion piece to the backrest bracket.

Then raise the backrest pad to the desired position and drill some holes there in the transition piece to match the backrest pad holes. Shape and polish the top of transition piece to the radius of the backrest pad

I'd be willing to bet that Ms Kawhead isn't an active member of KawaNOW. http://s2.images.proboards.com/grin.gifYou could bet your 401k on it, 'cause the last time I checked she never ask for permission. They's plenty other things that need to be did, beside wastin' time on a forum like sweeping the drive way, or cleaning the mud from and polishing my boots or something to contribute to the household since she don't work.

Now I do have a soft side. There are times when I'm feeling generous and she's finished her chores I'll permit her a break and allow her to call a friend and brag 'bout what a great catch I am! http://s2.images.proboards.com/cool.gif http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif One of these days, I'm gonna take her fishin'. I guess you could say I'm just an ole romatic at heart. I kain't help it. http://s2.images.proboards.com/cheesy.gif
