CT v Insurance or Not.

I have been reading about CTs v MTs - thinking of going over to the darkside on my next change.

I found this on another site

Anyone have any experience with this issue

I am not trying to tell anyone what to do with the darkside issue, I was almost convinced to go that way myself when I read a post on another site.

This is something I had not considered and will happily buy motorcycle tires.

Not likely to happen. I did my research before I mounted a car tire and as far as insurance companies are concerned, it needs to be a DOT-approved tire. This is a topic of discussion quite frequently on the Delphi darkside forum.

I have never found evidence of a motorcycle crash attributed to running a car tire. Having said that, many insurance companies will go to any length to avoid paying a claim.

Let your conscience be your guide and act accordingly.

I believe in a stretch of the insurgence argument if they don't want to pay a claim they could say you were traveling to fast or some other excuse even if you have a MT mounted.

If you go to the Darkside forum and mount the suggested brands you can ride worry free. Even better get the suggested brands from the folks on this board and worry will be the last thing on your mind!

Just learn to keep you mouth shut if you run a CT, and need to file a claim.

Dan, couple years ago there were copies of letters, posted on the Darkside forum, from three insurance companies, Progressive, Allstate and can't remember the third, covering this specific issue.
All three responded, as Scott noted, "DOT approved" as being the basic guideline.
There have been a few KawaNOW members using car tires that have had accidents. To my knowledge use of a car tire never came up.

Contact your insurance and ask. I did and was told that any DOT approved tire is okay.

My buddy who is an adjuster for Farmers told me they would have to PROVE without a shadow of doubt that the tire was the cause of the accident to be able to deny your claim.
